How about a different sort of beginning, instead of just Darren's wife getting swapped or swapped on to through an experimental process. How about we include Darren himself into this swap, wether it be through the experimental swap as before or something new.
One being through an unfortunate car accident of some kind where one or both get injured to the point that one has to share their body with the other or one gets the others body or some other type of that.
Another being through a very top secret remote that had some how made its way out of the labs and into the real world in which Darren and Carmen stumble upon it in a public setting. A remote that can swap not only heads, but right down to swapping individual body parts with press of a button.
Third being through an unforeseen alien invasion of the planet that abducts various people, animals and things alike to experiment on them aboard their ships with technology light years ahead of human kind. Creating all kinds interesting head and body part swaps between them.
Another being through some kind of ancient artifact such as a blade, something that looks like a scythe of some kind. That Darren and Carmen happen to find hidden in some shrubbery in a neighbors yard during their walk. Where odd things begin to happen between who wields it, things like body part swaps between humans, animals and objects.
If none of those fancy your tastes in the ways of swapping heads and body parts, feel free to add your own way idea of swapping. Just as long as it makes sense.
