Darren and Carmen were just spending yet another wonderful day together, holding hands as they walk home from a joyful dinner together. Smiling as they just take in the sights of warm night, the stars in the clear sky, others enjoying the beautiful night, drinking, having dinner outdoors. Darren and Carmen just continue on walking along the side walk passing by other people when it seemed like out of nowhere, a speeding white van rounds the corner they were just about to cross.
The vans sliding door slides open revealing suited men inside frantically trying to close the door to prevent some top secret experimental inventions from falling out as they get chased by some individuals that want to get there hands on it. Almost hitting Darren and Carmen as they sopped around the corner with more vans tailing behind at the same speed. Tires screeching loudly as they manage to get out of the way while the suited men inside the first van manage to get the door closed.
However, not in time as one of the top secret experimental inventions falls out onto the road. Skidding along the pavement almost getting crushed by the following vans. Luckily it didn't get damaged, but unfortunately the men didn't seem to notice it had fallen out. Nor did the men in the tailing vans as they all speed away into the night. Leaving Darren and Carmen laying on the sidewalk wondering what the heck just happened. Where others come to check on them, "are you two okay." An off duty cop asks.
"Yeah, were fine." Darren answers.
"Are you sure? It sounded wild." The off duty cop asks again.
"We're fine." Carmen tells him as she gets up brushing the dirt off her fancy dress while Darren does the same to his suit.
"That's good to hear, but I'm going call that in." The off duty cop says as he takes is work phone out to notify is buddies about the speeding vehicles.
"That was close wasn't Darren?" Carmen asks.
"Too close." Darren says as she brushes off his suit pants when he notices near a storm drain, an odd rectangular looking box with a red blinking light on it, "what the..." he says under his breath as he decides to take a closer look while Carmen is distracted by cleaning her dress.
Darren walks over to the odd thing, picking it up he notices it has multiple colored buttons on, red, blue, green, yellow, and white along with a switch, did this fall out of that van? he asks himself as he inspects as he walks back over to Carmen who notices it, "what's that thing?" She asks.
"No idea, but I think it came out of that van." Darren tells her.
"Oh no..should we tell that officer?" Carmen asks.
"It's probably a good idea, but why?" Darren answers.
"You mean, you're just going to take it?" Carmen questions.
"Well....it could be useful for something." Darren replies.
"I suppose, but we don't know what it is. Does it say anything?" Carmen asks Darren as they begin walking back home.
Both taking turns trying to figure out what this remote looking thing does. On the long walk home, the two couldn't figure out what the thing did. They pressed multiple buttons, flicked the switch and even checked to see if it had batteries in it. No matter what they did with it, nothing worked, "huh...must be broken." Carmen says as she walks inside their home.
"It can't be." Darren says as he tries to get the thing to work and once again nothing happens.
"Just leave that thing alone and get ready for bed sweetie." Carmen says as she walks to the master bedroom.
Darren on the other hand, curiosity got the best of him as he couldn't rest until he figured out what this remote did, "oh yeah....I'll be a sec." he says as he walks into another room still tinkering with the remote thing on the living room sofa.
After a while of trying to get it to work, he was just about to give up when he accidentally pressed an unmarked button on the back that just so happened to be the on/off switch. Causing the red light to turn green with an audible beep, "wait...did it..." he says to himself figuring that Carmen is sleeping.
Figuring that he must have turned on the remote, he slowly pressed a button on the remote which made it beep and the screen say, subject one not found, "what does that mean?" He asks himself.
Where he thinks for a moment before looking at there black cat Onyx sleeping in his cat tree, "maybe that's what it means." He says to himself as he aims the remote at Onyx and presses the button resulting a faint beam of light to shoot out at his cat. Startling him, but he didn't see anything happen as a result of it. However, he sees on the screen, subject two required, "okay...." he says and looks around to find Carmen's pet turtle Oscar just looking out him.
"Hmm." Darren thinks as he aims it at Oscar and presses the same button again, this time resulting in two faint beams coming out of the remote. Engulfing both Onyx and Oscar for a few seconds until it fades, leaving a strange sight to behold in Oscar's enclosure. Darren can't believe it, he rubs his eyes and still he sees it. Some how the remote just swapped the heads of Onyx and Oscar, swapping Oscar on to Onyx's feline body while Onyx is on Oscar's reptilian body.
"Holy shit, it just swapped their heads." Darren says almost a little too loud as he continue staring at his now turtle/cat and cat/turtle hybrid pets, "it worked." He adds.
From there, he just stared at the remote wondering what else he could do with it. He thought about swapping Onyx and Oscar back, but curiosity got the best of him again as he now is excited to do more swaps. Wondering what gen should do next, he takes the remote.....
