Robbie had only managed to roll over the dough a couple times when Robert's crying caught his ear from the living room.
"Go on. I've got this." Malcolm told him without his asking.
"Thanks Malcolm." Robbie headed out to check on his son. Robert was on the floor, crying, with a small glass on the floor nearby. "Ohhhh! Come here Little Guy!" Picking him up, he gently bounced him, kissing the slight red spot that had appeared on his head.
"Everything alright?" Malcolm yelled from the kitchen.
"Yeah, I left a cup out here and he knocked it over on himself."
"Poor guy."
Robbie soothed Robert until the infant fell asleep. Still holding him, he headed back into the kitchen where Malcolm had already placed the diced chicken and veggies into the pot pie and was just finishing up the gravy that was going in.
"Oh. I didn't hear you come in. Just adding the gravy and the crust then it's going in the oven. Hope you don't mind, but I used an old family recipe for the gravy."
"Not a problem as long as it tastes good."
"You think I got this by not having good recipes?" Malcolm bounced his belly a little. "But the gravy won't contribute to that any. You're going to have to pull it out of the oven. I need to get going or else my mom is going to be at the airport, panicking because I'm not there yet."
"Okay. Hope everything goes okay with your mom."
"Thanks Mr. Amell. Enjoy the pies. I hope Roberts okay." With that, he left, leaving Robbie and his son alone.
Settling down in the living room, he turned the TV on low volume so Robert wouldn't be disturbed. He wasn't paying much attention to the show that was on until the timer went off. As carefully as if he were getting on thin ice, Robbie laid his son on the blanket on the floor well away from the table or anything else that might fall on him and headed in to grab the pot pie.
Malcolm had outdone himself as the pie smelled delicious. Scooping out a large slice, he went back out to the living room. Robert was just stirring again as he made himself comfy. Robert sat up, rubbing his eyes, as Robbie took his first bite, immediately wishing he had waited a couple minutes to let it cool down.
Grabbing his cup, he filled it with tea to cool his singed tongue off before taking another bite.
Robert glanced around, looking for something, before toddling over to a ball that he started rolling and chasing around.
Robbie watched as he ate his helping of pot pie. The pie was delicious and he could feel it filling his stomach but it wasn't very filling. Despite his thoughts from earlier that he should try losing his budding gut, he found his plate loaded again.
