The doorway must have been widened.
That's what Evan concluded when he approached the door to Unit 705. Examining the top of the door frame, he saw a place where it was cut and a newer piece of wood was attached. The lion could even make out saw marks out on parts of the wall.
Nervously, he knocked a paw against the door. Seconds later, a mechanical whirling noise could be heard coming from the other side of the door. Clicking then came from the door handle. The handle turned and the door slowly swung open. However, nobody was there. Evan stood there confused, looking into an empty but pristine apartment. Suddenly, a deep voice bellowed from the bedroom.
"You can bring my order in here!" someone said. The lion peaked his head in. A door stood ajar ahead. He reckoned that's where the voice came from. "Are you a new delivery driver or something? Come on, don't be shy!" Evan entered the apartment and slowly approached the bedroom door and pushed it open. He let out a sharp gasp when he saw what was inside.
The bedroom to this apartment was much like his own. It was nearly the same shape and size. And it, too, had a very large bed. But sitting on this bed was an equally large fur. A dog, a German Shepherd, to be specific. He sat upright in bed, a mountain of pillows behind him. The dog had a freakishly huge belly. It spilled out in front of him, pushing his legs wide apart while still covering most of his rotund thighs. Two mounds of lard each the size of Evan's head rested on the impossibly huge gut. The dog's face was adorned with massive chubby cheeks and at least two extra chins. Had the dog not been sitting on his bed, Evan would have seen the two beanbag chair sized globes of fat made up the dog's ass. The fur was naked. There was no need to cover up as his own gut hid his privates. Instead, the dog's black and brown fur was freely exposed. The dog was nearly as wide as the bed. Evan could not tell how tall the dog was. He guessed he was a few years older than the lion.
When the dog saw Evan, he waved a meaty paw in his direction. This caused the fur's entire body to wobble. The lion cautiously approached, being careful not to knock over any of the stacks of empty pizza boxes that laid piled up in the bedroom.
"Did you leave my order in the kitchen or something?" the German Shepard asked. "I keep telling the guys at Purgatory Pizza that their delivery boys can just drop it off in my bedroom!"
"Oh, I'm not a delivery boy," Evan said timidly. He was still in shock at seeing a fur this morbidly obese. "I'm Evan. I, uh, just moved in this morning...I live in Unit 703. I was just going around introducing myself."
"Oh...okay! Well, hello neighbor!" the dog said cheerfully. "I'm Derrick! Pleased to make your acquaintance!" He stuck out a paw. Evan careful made his way closer to the bed to shake paws. Once more, the dog's entire body wobbled due to the movement. "So, where'd you come from?"
"Bastion. Just got in last night." The lion was still a bit thrown off. His mind boggled at the idea of any fur getting as big as Derrick.
"Wow! That's a ways away!" Derrick said. "I haven't been to Bastion in years! Not since I-"
"Derrick! I have your order!" came a voice from the hallway.
"Oh! Lunch! Yes! Come on in!" Into the bedroom walked a young otter. He, too, was quite large with a sizeable gut and moobs that stretched his shirt to the limit. He carried with him three absurdly large pizza boxes. The otter looked like he was having trouble with them, so Evan helped him set them on a table next to Derrick.
From a drawer by his bed, Derrick pulled out a wad of cash. He peeled off a several large bills and gave them to the otter. "There you go! See you tomorrow, Adam."
"Same to you too," the otter said as he waddled out the door.
"Ah, yes. Lunchtime! Say, would you like some? I always order a bit too much, but end up eating it all anyways. It'll help save me from myself!"
