Before anyone in the family could move, another object suddenly levitated into the air and went hurling at high speed towards the floor at their feet. This time, it was an ornate table lamp that shattered to pieces loudly.
“This place is haunted!” shrieked Megan.
“Let's get out of here!” hissed Janet.
But just then, a heavy wooden bookshelf near the front door abruptly toppled over, crashing loudly to the ground and blocking the family's escape.
“This way!” yelled Alan, dashing out of the entry hall into a random, new room. The rest of the terrified family quickly followed him.
The new room was just as dark as the other had been before Steve found the light switch. This time it was Alan who groped through the darkness along the walls until discovering a switch and flooding the room with light.
It was a dirty, rundown, antique kitchen they were in this time.
“Anyone feel like dinner?” joked Alan.
The rest of the family remained silent.
Steve shut the door behind them, hoping to somehow block the angry spirits from following them into the kitchen.
“Mom, I'm scared!” whimpered Megan.
Janet hugged her tightly while Steve looked around the room for an escape route.
Alan, meanwhile, had found an old rag and was dusting dirt and cobwebs off the wooden countertop.
“Alan, what are you doing?” snapped Steve.
“Just cleaning this place up a little, dad,” replied Alan. “It's a pigsty.”
Steve and Janet exchanged worried looks.
“So... after I'm done vit der cleaning,” said Alan in a weird new accent. “Who vould like zome dinner?”
“Uh... Alan, are you all right?” asked Steve slowly.
“Ja, I am fine,” laughed Alan. “Now, vhat vould Frau und Herr Donaldson like to eat?”
“Alan...” began Steve.
“Und bitte – call me Helga, Herr Donaldson!” said a strangely smiling Alan.
