Mist yawned as she sat through another of Rhys's magic lessons. The short-haired brunette knew she needed to pay attention, but at the same time, Rhys's way of teaching things could be such a drag sometimes. But Mist knew better to complain or be rude about it, she was the one who had asked him to teach her about magic after all. So the young girl, slouched slightly in her chair, listened on as Rhys explained the intricacies of magic to her.
"... And that should do it for today." Rhys said. He lifted his gaze from the book he'd been reading to Mist from, to his student. He caught her mid-yawn. Mist blushed in embarrassment and tried to quickly close her mouth as if she hadn't been bored, but it was too late. Rhys shook his head and slammed his book shut, the noise from this action shook Mist and made her sit up. Rhys asked her, "Any questions?"
"N-No... I think I got it." Mist replied in an unconvincing manner. She got up from her chair and picked up her staff, then swung it forward and cast Heal. Bright healing magic sparkled around the air, putting on quite the light show before dissipating. Rhys sighed.
"That was a good try at Heal, but our lesson was on Restore." He told his young protege.
"O-Oh..." Mist sounded a little surprised. She hung her head low and lowered her staff. "I'm sorry, Rhys. I think I'm just tired today..."
"That's okay, Mist." Rhys smiled. He patted the girl on her shoulder gently. "I know you've had a lot on your mind lately, and believe me, I know it's not easy to transition to the battlefield. You're doing good so far, but I'd like you to take some rest, and then we can continue our lessons another day."
"Thanks..." Mist hugged her teacher. She felt bad for almost ignoring Rhys's lesson, but happy that her teacher was so understanding.
"Don't mention it." Rhys returned the embrace. He then put his book down on a table and headed for the door, motioning for Mist to follow him. "Come now. Let's keep ourselves well-rested, and well-fed!"
"Okay!" Mist exclaimed. Rhys smiled at her and left the room. Mist smiled, she knew full-well that he was talking about heading to the kitchen to grab some grub. The young brunette could almost feel her mouth watering at the thought of eating something, anything, as Rhys's lesson had gone on long enough that lunch was nearly over!
Mist headed for the door and was about to skip down the hall for a well-deserved meal, when she looked back and noticed Rhys had left his spell book on the table. She thought it was a bit careless of him to just leave it there, especially when they both knew that the whole camp was about to be moved in the morning, it might wind up getting lost in the move!
"How unlike you, Rhys!" Mist giggled to herself as she reached for the book, but in a careless move herself, she accidentally knocked it over and the book fell down on the floor. "Ooops!"
Mist bent down and went to grab it again, when she noticed that Rhys had jotted down something on one of the pages.
"What's this?" Mist wondered aloud. She picked up the book and started reading.
The text written in the book was almost impossible for Mist to understand, and she could only read Rhys's notes on the matter that he'd scribbled next to what she assumed to be a spell. From Rhys's notes, he wrote that the spell on the page could be a powerful tool in helping the Greil Mercenaries secure victory, but that it was beyond even his understanding. In his notes, Rhys wrote detailed instructions on how to cast the spell, but that he needed more time to decipher just how to perform the spell to make it assist the army.
"A powerful spell... That even Rhys can't perform! Wow..." Mist was amazed at her find. She'd felt bad for making Rhys feel like she wasn't paying attention to him, but if she could figure out how to cast this spell with his notes, then she thought she'd be making up for her lack of attention. "Okay!"
With that, Mist tucked the spellbook under her shirt and ran out of the room. She had to be careful that Rhys wasn't waiting for her outside, and luckily for her, he seemed to have already gone on to the kitchen without her. Mist smiled, thinking of all the good that she could do for her brother and the rest of the mercenaries if she got this powerful spell down. And so, she ran off with the book in secret out into the woods nearby.
Once she felt she was a proper distance away from the camp, Mist pulled out Rhys's spellbook and began studying it in more depth. Ever the fast learner, Mist felt she needed only minutes of studying before she felt ready to cast it for herself. Clutching her staff hard, she swung it upwards and channeled her magic in the same way as it was explained in the book. Dark magic swirled from the ground upwards to cover her entire body. Mist gulped as she saw the black magic build around her, she hadn't expected this to be a dark magic spell, but she tried to stay strong and prepare for whatever kind of powerful attack would appear. But then all of a sudden, Mist felt her own body start to get weak.
What's happening to me!? Mist thought in panic. Had she cast the spell wrong?
Mist's legs gave out shortly after she thought she'd made a huge mistake, and the young girl collapsed on the ground. Something was going very wrong, Mist could almost swear that the grass and the trees and everything around her was getting bigger somehow. The magic continued to flow around her, but Mist could hardly see it anymore as her eyelids started to felt heavy and she lost what little strength she had left. The young brunette passed out.
Some time later, Mist wakes up smaller than normal, but at what size is she?
