Derek and Claire took their frozen treats and holding hands made their way towards the entrance of city's zoo. Claire always enjoyed going to the zoo and usually had to beg Derek to take her. However today in this strange shrunken city within the Jordan's home the couple walked eagerly from exhibit to exhibit with a level excitement that was hard to match.
After a while of walking around and looking at the various animals Derek became tired and took a break on a bench while Claire continued down the path towards the primate habitats. Able to take a bit of breather Derek scrolled through his phone's camera. While looking a the various selfies of Claire and him had taken with the animals he realized that he had neglected his ice cream. Looking down at his cup of half melted rocky road he was about to dig in when he noticed a vibration in the chocolatey soup. He looked up from his cup thinking his eyes were playing tricks on him when he felt a quake around him.
Derek looked around him to see if other zoo patrons had noticed the sensation only to feel the quakes again this time with much more force. People began to run in all directions as the land around him continued to shake in quicker succession. He had a bad feeling about this. He had to find Claire and get them to safety. He tore down the path towards the primates section. That's where Claire said she'd be he thought. Derek pushed his way through the mob all while yelling out Claire's name. He was so panicked that he didn't notice when the air in front of him became displaced and a strong gust lifted him off his feet and sent him backwards.
From the seat of his pants Derek looked a few yards ahead of him to see what had been causing the chaos. Coal black eyes, a pink triangle nose, and long floppy ears? A giant bunny? That couldn't be right. Soon another white figure dropped down with a loud thud next to its twin. Two giant bunnies. This still seemed wrong Derek thought as he rubbed his head wondering how hard he had hit it on the pavement. After a moment he drew his gaze up. Now that he thought of it the bunnies' faces seemed familiar they reminded him of something but he just couldn't place it. Then it finally hit him. Christmas 2 years ago he had bought them as a gift. Not bunnies though but bunny slippers. A gift for someone? Derek's eyes fell upon the tired bored look of the female gargantuan above him. A gift for his mom, Debbie.
Debbie had walked into the city, not with the wonder and excitement that Derek and his girlfriend had shared not too long ago, but with a look of routine and monotony not unlike someone getting groceries. She seemed tired and let out a monstrous yawn to reiterate this that sent several flocks of birds in the area flying for safety. Derek sat on the ground confused at Debbie's presence until he saw her reach her hand down trapping about a dozen feeling visitors before they were brought up to chest level, examined and deposited into her coffee cup. This kickstarted Derek's fight or flight reflexes as he quickly retreated out of the open and into one of the zoo's info booths. Derek watched as Debbie repeated the process several more times before she saw that the large clusters of park guests have moved on. She followed them down the pathway as her booming footsteps grew more distant Derek finally could breathe. Derek couldn't believe any of what he just saw. Worst of all Debbie was heading Claire's way.
