There was clearly something different about Ellie when she walked into work on Monday morning, something about her behavior. She was always friendly and cheerful, but today she seemed especially 'giddy' about something or other. Everyone would notice it, at least everyone who took interest in their co-workers. But none of them would ask Ellie why she seemed so excited. Instead they would all just pass it off as she was just having a good day.
Of course that wasn't wrong, and there was a particular reason why she was having a good day. After heading upstairs to lock her purse and mobile phone away in her locker, Ellie went to have a pee and check her reflection in the mirror before wandering into the tea room, where most of her co-workers were gathered ready to start their shifts like her. The only employees missing from the tea room were Emma, Liz and Liam. Ellie correctly guessed that Liz was discussing with something with Emma in the manager's office and Liam... well... he was just late for work again. Alan wasn't in the tea room, he was currently sat in 'isolation' in the rather cramped security office, next to the tea room, going over some CCTV footage.
Even Elizabeth was sat with everyone having a coffee. She'd been seen by the staff a lot more since Emma took over as store manager. Most people thought she should have got the promotion, but Emma was instead transferred from the Frenchgate store. The usual greetings followed and Ellie walked over to the sink to get a drink of water. As she drank it, she studied everyone in the tea room closely, more closely than she usually would.
And then a cheeky smile, very uncharacteristic of Ellie, appeared on the girl's face.
