A special swapping power, given to her by an old woman she had never met before. And why? Ellie had simply stopped the woman from accidentally stepping in front of a car on her way to work. The old woman had thanked Ellie in the best way she could think. Using her inate ability to bestow powers on others, the elderly woman gave Ellie the power to swap people's body parts without them being aware.
Ellie knew it was true, because after she had left the old woman's company, she tried her new power a couple of times on passersby. Nothing too drastic, in her opinion anyway, she swapped the heights of a married 40-something couple, making the woman 5'10" and her husband 5'5", and she swapped the hands of a younger couple, giving the guy his girlfriend's dainty hands with a french-tip manicure. And Ellie was that pleased with her new ability that she left the two couples swapped before continuing on her way to work. And now here she was, about to start using her power on her co-workers and friends.
"Hi Ellie, how are you?" Jodie greeted her with a smile as she came over for a drink of water also.
"Oh I'm good, in fact I feel great today." Ellie replied, not exaggerating in the least.
Jodie smiled, then took a long drink of water. Ellie then asked Jodie how she was, since she was four months pregnant and her boyfriend had dumped her. She could only imagine what she was going through. "I should be asking you that. Are you holding up?" Ellie said.
Jodie rolled her eyes, holding her glass in one hand and rubbing her slightly swollen tummy with the other through her polo shirt. "Well I can be. The morning sickness is getting me down, and my hormones are all over the fucking place." She grumbled.
"Sorry to hear that." Ellie mumbled, biting her bottom lip.
"Its okay, I've got family and friends to support me." Jodie smiled again, being surprisingly upbeat.
Ellie nodded, patting Jodie's shoulder and then walking past her to sit down in a chair nearby. There was still five minutes before the shift was due to start, and Ellie was wondering whether she should make a swap or two now, or wait until everyone had gone down to the shop floor to start work.
