“David your first lesson will be to remove the slimes from that room over there.” Professor Sterling said, unlocking a door from her desk.
“I’ll have it cleared out in no time.” David said grabbing his swords handle.
“Oh you won’t be using those.” Professor Sterling said.
“Then how am I supposed to remove them?” David asked.
“You came here to learn magic, and I just gave you a talisman didn’t I?” Professor Sterling questioned.
“I mean yes, but I don’t know any spells or have any potions.” David said.
“Very well, I suppose I can teach you one.” Professor Sterling said. “This is a very basic magical attack, even a knight like yourself should be able to cast it right now.”
“Thank you ma’am.” David said listening.
“Now magic is three parts, focus, technique, and statement. Perhaps your sword can be used for the focus. Now watch.” Professor Sterling performed a simple beam like spell, a few times, before allowing David to try.
“Okay let’s see I’ve got it.” David said. Pointing his sword forward, he managed to send off a few beams.
“Good, good, you show promise. Perhaps a lighter focus point later on but for now it will do. Go handle the slimes, I’ll be watching from here.” Professor Sterling said.
It had been decades since her last student, and normally it was only young girls who could see her door, and yet here was this night, a grown man, showing potential for great magic already.
“There we go.” David said huffing a bit. “Not as easy as swinging my sword, but they went down all the same.”
“Yes, magic does tend to drain users early on, but with time we can build up an immunity to elemental magic, and your own reserves.” Professor Sterling said.
“That’s great!” David exclaimed. “I should be going back to my dorm though.”
“See you tomorrow David.” Professor Sterling said, momentarily noticing the heart on his swords cross guard.
