Josh inspected the outfit he was wearing. His wide-brimmed hat almost fell off his head as he looked down. He could clearly see his peach-colored ball gown that extended to the floor. He couldn't see the shoes he was wearing, they were hidden by the skirt. He couldn't lift the skirt as his gloved hands were filled: one hand with his trick or treat bag and a fan and the other with an umbrella. But his feet didn't feel like they were wearing his usual sneakers anymore.
Was he wearing panties? Josh didn't know. There wasn't any way to tell without taking off the dress. (Josh didn't know it now, but he would have a lot of trouble later taking off his dress as it zipped up in the back. He hadn't any experience with apparel that zipped up the back.)
After a moment, Josh decided to take advantage of the costume and go trick or treating.
He didn't want to go to anyone he knew, so he walked a few blocks away to a house of a stranger. Josh used the umbrella and fan to hide his face from the passersby. As he walked, he confirmed he wasn't wearing sneakers anymore. He might even be wearing shoes with a small heel. He wasn't sure.
Josh got up the nerve to knock on the first door. He was a bit worried that someone would make a snide remark that he was in a very girlie costume. If that was the case, he would go straight home.
"Trick or Treat," he announced when the door was answered.
"Hey, aren't you a bit old for trick or treat," the woman who answered the door remarked?
The woman didn't have any trouble with the costume at all. It was that he was 15 now and a bit too old for trick or treat.
