When the flash of light was gone, Josh brought his hands up to rub his eyes, intending to aid them from the bright light. He had to clear a few stray hairs before he could do that though. Stray hairs? Josh never had hair long enough where it would come down to his face. He also a bunch of hairs brushing his neck and even some touching his shirt farther down his back. Along with that, there was some sitting behind his ears too. When his eyes finally readjusted, he opened his eyes. Josh saw even more stray hairs blocking his vision, and they were black just like Jenn's hair! To top it all off, when he finally cleared his vision he looked over at Jenn and saw that she had short, brown hair that was cut shorter, just like how Josh's was before.
"No way!" Jenn said. "It actually worked!"
"I'm kinda surprised too." Josh said, still in shock that he now had hair at a length he would never even think of keeping it.
"Kinda surprised?" Jenn questioned. "We have each other's hair!"
"Let's go see this in the mirror." Josh said, signaling for her to follow him.
As Josh walked, he could feel his hair swaying back and forth, which threw him off at first since his hair was short enough before where it wouldn't move at all. They went over to the door where his bathroom was connected to his room. Sure enough, when Josh looked and saw a reflection of himself but with much longer, darker hair. Meanwhile, Jenn now had shorter, darker hair that hardly moved at all. She didn't look as unusual as Josh though because some girls choose to keep their hair shorter. Josh thought of Courtney's friend Josie.
"You look ridiculous!" Jenn said laughing.
"I know." Replied Josh in agreement.
One thing that Josh noticed was he was very cold. He had to fold his arms up to his chest just to keep warm. At first he couldn't figure out why, but then he realized it was because he now had almost no body hair! Jenn now had his body hair, as he could see by looking at her arms. He couldn't be for sure because he just shaved before school in the morning, but if she kept his hair for a couple for days (which he hoped she didn't), then she would probably be growing facial hair too.
After a few seconds of silence, Jenn noticed her friend was still uncomfortable with her hair, so she decided to pipe up. "Looks like someone's uncomfortable with their new hair." She said teasingly.
"Tell me about it." Josh said as he struggled to keep his hair out of his face and behind his head. "Can't we just swap back now?"
"Not yet. I want to see what people think." She told him, as they walked out of the bathroom. Then she thought of something to help her friend. "I have an idea. Why don't you put your hair back in a ponytail?"
"I wish I could. But I don't have anything to use!" He complained.
"Doesn't Bri usually have her hair back like that? Maybe she has some hair ties." Jenn reasoned.
"Oh yeah. Maybe I can go take one out of her room." Josh told her.
Both of them walked over to the room that Bri and Courtney shared and looked throughout for something to help Josh with his feminine problem. After a couple minutes of searching, the light flipped on. Josh and Jenn froze as they turned to see the youngest Mitchell sister.
"Two things..." Bri said. "One. Hey Jenn! And two, what're you guys doing in my room?"
Josh and his friend looked at each other, surprised that Bri had said nothing about their hair. Josh decided to test it further. "Oh, I was hoping I could borrow one of your hair ties for MY HAIR." He said, emphasizing on the last two words.
"Just use some of your own." She said.
"My own?" He asked.
"Yeah stupid! You have some of your own, you don't need to use mine." Bri said laughing.
He and Jenn looked at each other with shocked expressions. "Okay then..." Jenn said. "It was Josh's idea anyway." she said joking.
"Of course it was." Said Josh's sister. "Why would you need hair ties Jenn?" She said giggling.
Jenn followed Josh out of the room, after saying her goodbyes with Bri. She then caught up with Josh with an excited look on her face. "Do you know this means Josh?"
"What?" He asked, not knowing where she was going with her question.
"You swaps can alter reality! Bri was oblivious to the fact our hair was swapped and apparently you have your own hair ties. I still can't believe you have this power. It's so cool!"
"I guess that's pretty cool." Josh said in agreement, still trying to keep his out of control hair behind his head. "Can we swap back now? Now you know what others think of your hair." He hoped that reasoning with her words earlier would get him his hair back.
"Why should we? Nobody notices that we look different. I'd like to stay like this for a couple of days and see what having shorter hair is like." She told him. "How about for the weekend."
Josh's eyes widened, realizing he could get his hair back without her permission. "Please Jenn? No offense, but I don't want to be stuck with girl hair for much longer."
"Come on Josh! You were the one who wanted to test this in the first place..." She said giving him puppy dog eyes that Josh found to be really cute, even though Bri's were second to none. Realizing that she was right about him wanting to try the power out, he remained silent as there was no way out of keeping her hair. "I promise we'll swap back soon." She added trying to convince him.
Josh finally gave in. "Okay fine! But only for the weekend. I want it back on Monday."
"Awesome! Thanks!" Jenn said wrapping Josh into a tight hug, Josh was kinda thrown off by her hug but he embraced her anyway. "Now let's go find those hair ties!" She said after breaking the hug.
After a few minutes of searching they couldn't find anything. Finally Josh got a clue. "Maybe they're in the bathroom." He walked back to where he originally saw his new look for the first time. He looked around and as Jenn walked in, he realized something. "Maybe they're in the cabinet where I keep my hair gel." He didn't use gel often, which is what caused him to take so long to remember that. He opened the cabinet and saw that his hair gel was no longer there, but there were a few hair ties. "Finally! I found them." He told his friend.
"You don't use any hair gel?" Jen asked.
"Not normally, but I usually keep some up here. It's not in here though."
"I must have it now!" She guessed, the explaining her idea to Josh. "Think about it, he must have switched not only our hair but the products we use in our hair too." Her suspicions were confirmed when she looked in Josh's shower to see her shampoo and conditioners in his shower. "Yep!" She confirmed to Josh, holding a bottle up. "This is my shampoo."
"Here, can you do this for me?" Josh said, handing her a red hair tie, which was his favorite color. After a few seconds, Jenn had successfully put Josh's hair back in a ponytail. "Finally! No more crazy hair." He said.
"One last thing." Josh's friend told him. "Do you think you can swap our knowledge of how to take care of our hair so we can do stuff like that without any help?"
"I suppose so, it will make both of our lives easier. I accept." Josh said as the same flash of light as the first time followed, his filled with information on how to take care of girls hair. Specifically Jenn's.
When they both returned to his room, they continued to study. After about an hour, they were finished.
Jenn looked over to Josh's digital clock, which read 5:45 PM. "I don't have to be home for dinner until 6:30." She said.
"Okay. You can stay and have dinner with us if you'd like to. I'm sure my mom won't mind." Josh said, being polite.
"I might call my mom in a bit. I'll decide then." She told Josh.
"So what do you want to do now?" Josh asked her since she was the guest.
"Why don't we swap some more things around?" She asked Josh.
"No thanks." He said. "I'm done for the day."
"Please Josh?" Having this power is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Let's take advantage!" Jenn said reasoning to him.
"Okay fine! What do you want to swap now?"
"How about this?" She said, preparing her pitch. "Let's swap our _______"
