Pointed Lance swallowed nervously. This was it. All the regimental training, all those drills, all those tests, and this was it. The second the Sergeant finished his speech he was gone. Sure, Lance was listening, but what was he actually meant to do? Searching around he saw some of the rookies were already pairing up. That thestral mare that had caught his eye had already turned and trotted back to the bunkrooms. For the first time, Lance really actually looked around.
They were in the Royal Guard's Barracks, an attachment to Canterlot Castle. It was pretty large, housing hundreds of active guards at a time, and the single biggest concentration of them in Equestria. The Rookie's had their seperate accomodation, presumably until the next batch arrived and those that remained were moved on to the real barracks. Sergeant Accipiter was the commanding officer for the cadets, and he was in his office right there. Sure, Lance could ask him about what he should be doing... but he seemed pretty terse. He did know Lance's uncle though... the gambling, black sheep of the family uncle but he was still family.
In this room, now the Thestral had left, there were twenty nine royal guard rookies all in their golden armour but with a multitude of fur colours. Already they were starting to seperate out, falling back into the same groups they were in during training. Lance had prefferred to train alone, and now that might be a problem. The light green earth pony that had seen shaking earlier under Accipiter's gaze sidled up to the unicorn, the somewhat chubby stallion giving Lance a weak smile. "Hey there... I'm Camo," he said holding out a hoof. Lance looked at it for a moment before lifting his own and giving it a shake.
"Lance," the unicorn said plainly.
Camo looked at the unicorn expectantly, before Lance just gave a shrug. The earth pony sighed. "Can we... team up?" he asked, his blue eyes seeming to shine as he stared up at the unicorn.
