Hannah and Paige exited the lunch line with their trays in hand and made their way to the table where their trio of friends resided, along with a veritable mountain of food. Loads of chips, muffins, cookies, soda, and popcorn awaited them.
Hannah took her seat across from the three, next to Paige. "Uhh, what's up with the snacks, guys?" She chuckled.
Maya grinned in a friendly fashion. "Just a welcome party for you! You gotta be hungry!"
"I appreciate it, but I really shouldn't eat that stuff. I gotta keep in shape for volleyball."
"Oh, you'll be fine! You can work it off in gym easy!" Jackie insisted.
Dani nodded in agreement. "You'll be fine!"
"Don't worry, Hannah, I'll share with you if you don't wanna eat it all." Paige volunteered.
Hannah shrugged and nodded. "Alright, I'll buy it." She reached for a bag of popcorn, tears it open, and starts delivering handfuls to her mouth. Her eyes were instantly alight with joy. All summer and junior year she had denied herself these delicacies due to her lack of physical activity, but now, she could play her favorite sport once again, so what she ate obviously didn't matter so long as she got on the team. She quickly finished the bag of salty popcorn and stuffed the muffins in her mouth quickly in succession. Once half of the pile was gone, she felt an unusual tightness on her already snug black Nike hoodie and decided to stop, else she incur forty five minutes of pain in the subsequent class.
Jackie, Maya, and Dani grinned in satisfaction. Soon, Hannah Cohen would be but an echo of what she once was, and the rightful queens of Brookside would be back on top.
As Hannah retracted herself from the pile, it was Paige's cue to finish it. She was careful not to take too much joy in her feast, else she become addicted and catch the ire of her fitness obsessed mother.
