This choice: Tyler surprised Annabelle with a present • Go Back...Chapter #8Tyler surprises Annabelle with a present by: Michelle The next day, Tyler slipped into the attic and made another wish. He wanted to do something thoughtful for Annabelle. He knew she loved her prior dog Flash so much. Flash was just a puppy and would still be alive today if Annabelle’s leash didn’t snap that day. Tyler and Annabelle had gone on 1 date so far. They were just in the beginning stages of getting to know each other. While walking Flash one day, he saw a squirrel across the street and made a mad dash ripping the leash out of Annabelle’s hands. On his way across the street, he was hit by a car and killed. Tyler spend hours consoling Annabelle after losing her prized pet. He knew it would be a romantic gesture to go back in time to save Flash.
After making the wish, he activated the medallion for 5 hours. He figured it would be enough time to save the day. His body vanished and re-appeared in the past. It took Tyler a few moments to realize who’s body he’d become to save Flash. Unlike his other time-travels, his vision was blurry and seemed black and white. He was lying on the grass and recognized Annabelle’s old backyard. Tyler had spent many hours in her backyard with her of her old house before they were married. Tyler blinked his eyes again wondering if his vision would clear up. He then noticed how different everything seemed to smell. He could smell every flower in Annabelle’s backyard. He swore he could suddenly smell other animal’s scent’s in the breeze. Tyler wondered why he was laying in Annabelle’s backyard. He wonder if he became Annabelle at first or one of her friends who was relaxing in the grass. He tried to stand up and suddenly figured out why he had black and white vision.
He looked down and realized he had time-traveled into Flash’s body! He thought, “Huh?! I’m a dog!? I didn’t know it was possible to time-travel into an animal??!” He then realized how perfect this was. If he had complete control of Flash’s body, he would be able to avoid running across the street when he was killed. He took a few steps on all 4’s and couldn’t help but laugh, “Wow! This isn’t too hard! I think I got the hang of it already!” He trotted around Annabelle’s backyard a few times and noticed many aromas he never could smell as a human. Flash had obviously marked all the trees in Annabelle’s yard because for some reason Tyler could tell it was his body’s scent. Tyler curiously sniffed around for awhile getting used to being a dog. He would be stuck as Flash for 5 hours in the past. He had to make sure he avoided getting hit by the car.
That’s when he smelled Annabelle. For some reason, he knew exactly what her scent was. He started wagging his tail and ran up to his temporary owner. Annabelle smiled, “Who’s my good boy? Who’s my good boy?” Tyler licked her face like Flash used to do. Annabelle was holding a leash and smiled, “Want to go on a walk?” Tyler couldn’t have been more excited. After exploring the fenced in backyard for the past few minutes as a dog, he couldn’t wait to find out what other things in the world were like from a canine’s perspective.
Annabelle clipped the leash on her pet. Tyler then remembered why he was here. He had to make sure Flash didn’t snap the worn out leash this time. Tyler knew he might be tempted once they were walking around with his new dog sense of smell and didn’t want to risk breaking it either. He figured the best thing to do was break the leash now. That way it would break safely in the backyard. His plan worked perfectly. Tyler tugged hard on the leash and it snapped. Annabelle seemed disappointed, “Hmm. That’s why this leash was so cheap. It’s a piece of junk! Let’s go to the store and pick you out a new one!” Annabelle picked up her small puppy and carried Flash into the car.
10 minutes later, Annabelle was carrying Tyler through the pet store. Tyler’s senses were on overload. He had been to pet stores like this before but never as a dog. All the food and snacks seemed tantalizing. Tyler was drooling and his instincts were taking over. He tried to free himself from Annabelle’s’ arms so he could run. However, Annabelle had a good hold of her puppy and wouldn’t budge. Finally, she got to the leash aisle and found a good study leash. She clipped it on Tyler and he immediately tried to take off towards the dog treats. Tyler’s neck was choked he tugged so hard. Tyler stopped after the painful tug and thought, “Ouch! Being on a leash sucks!” He tried his best to lead Annabelle towards the treats. Annabelle could tell her pet was sniffing something out and held the leash while following. Tyler put his front paws up on the treats and stuck his head into a container of tiny treats shaped like dog bones. Annabelle tugged on the leash and swatted his rear, “Bad dog!” Tyler was shocked at being swatted and let out a whimper. Annabelle mumbled, “All that expensive dog training and this is what you do?” Tyler felt bad for being over eager and not containing his canine wants. Annabelle spoke to her pet, “Lets try this again Flash. Now sit!” Tyler obeyed and sat quietly. Annabelle seemed pleased and grabbed a handful of treats for her pet. She put them in a bag and went to pay for them. Tyler anxiously led the way and felt another tug on his leash causing him to choke. Annabelle leaned down to her pet and swatted Flash again, “Bad boy! You know better Flash! Now HEEL!” Tyler understood the command and began walking along side Annabelle instead of in front. Tyler knew he’d have to control his canine emotions if he wanted any chance of getting another treat. As he sat on command by the cash register, Tyler laughed to himself thinking how happy Annabelle would be to have her dog back. He also knew it would be fun to see Flash in person once he was back to his normal time. It would be a special bond knowing he’d spent a few hours in Flash’s body.
When they did finally go for a walk, Tyler was pleased that nothing serious happened. He understood why so many dogs were easily distracted. Every squirrel that ran by caught Tyler’s new senses. He wanted to do nothing more than chase them around. But he still had enough of his human brain to calm his nerves. Tyler had no idea he’d actually be in Flash’s body to make sure he stayed safe that day. He assumed he’d become a human that would help change the past. He wagged his tail back at Annabelle’s house. She was slightly younger and didn’t care that a dog saw her undress. Tyler easily lingered around while she got naked and took a bath. Tyler sat nicely chewing on a bone on the floor next to the bath tub. The 5 hours were suddenly over. He was suddenly back in the attic in present time.
Tyler stood up and took a few steps in his human body. He was glad to be back to his normal self again. He thought about how interesting the past few hours had been as a dog. He couldn’t wait to tell Annabelle about what he learned on this time-traveling adventure. He knew Annabelle would be excited to try being a dog too. Or maybe a cat or farm animal. He was also curious to see if his planned worked. Flash would be about 8 years old now and should be sleeping somewhere around the house. Tyler took a few steps in the attic and noticed everything seemed different.
Their attic was almost empty before. But now it was filled with old baby clothes and toys and much more clutter. Tyler and Annabelle hadn’t had children yet. Or did they? Tyler wondered if his time-travel had affected more than just saving Flash. Maybe he changed more things about the future. It was obvious they had children now by the amount of stuff in the attic.
Tyler tiptoed back to their bedroom and glanced downstairs. A dog was snoring away on a pillow at the bottom of the stairs. Tyler was pleased, “Yes! It’s Flash! He’s alive!” Tyler then saw the new decorations everywhere in the hallways. It was easy to tell the spare bedrooms were now filled with children. Tyler smiled, “Wow! We must have kids now!” He then glanced into the bedroom and was shocked to see another man laying next to Annabelle, “Who the hell is that?” Tyler wondered as he got brave and tiptoed closer. He recognized the sleeping man as one of his best friends, Zack. Tyler was frozen wondering what was going on, “Why the hell is Zack sleeping with MY wife?” Tyler glanced around the bedroom and saw pictures of them together. “What the??” Tyler thought as he suddenly realized what happened.
Tyler tiptoed away without waking anybody up. He ran back upstairs to the attic to use the time-traveling medallion again thinking, “Apparently saving Flash’s life had more to do with changing the future than I thought! How did this happen?” Tyler then recalled he and Annabelle’s first few dates. It involved consoling Annabelle after the loss of her prized dog. She was emotional and vulnerable and needed a loving shoulder to cry on. Tyler hadn’t realized it, but the fact Flash was hit by a car helped Annabelle and Tyler get to know each other better in the past. Now that Flash was never killed, they must not have had a good 2nd date. Now Zack had snuck in and won Annabelle over this time. Zack must have been the shoulder to cry on instead. Tyler cursed himself, “I gotta fix this!” He had to get back to past and make things right. He wondered what to do. He was desperate to go back and change things so he set the timer for 24 hours. That would give him a complete day to make sure his former body and Annabelle end up together.
