"Any idea what this big announcement is all about?" Steven asked Liz as the two waited in the breakroom.
"I swear, I have absolutely zero idea." Liz answered. "I came in, same as you this morning, and was told nothing."
"You don't think..." Steven began to say until the door opened.
"Is something wrong with Elizabeth? Why were we all called here?" Julie asked as her group entered.
"Oh God, I hope not!" Liz shouted before clearing her throat. "I mean..."
"You haven't heard?" Jessica asked as she too entered with her group. "Apparently Wilko got bought out. Nationwide."
"What?!" Everyone in the room shouted.
"Yeah. Apparently it was sold to some oil baron or something." Jessica explained with a shrug.
"I assure you, that isn't the case." Elizabeth said, finally arriving at the breakroom. "No oil baron has bought us out."
"Yes, yes, yes. Oil is not my interest." A voice emerged from behind Elizabeth. "Jeremiah."
"Yes. This is Mr. Jeremiah. No, I do not know if that is his first name or his last name." Elizabeth said with a heavy sigh. "He owns Wilko now."
"Thank you Elizabeth!" Jeremiah said as he stood at the front of the room. He was tall, probably around 6'2" or 6'3", with a terrible looking brown pompadour and sideburns. And a terrible bright blue suit. "To start, you will all be receiving raises, and be permanently transferred to this location!"
"Raises? How much?" Charlotte asked with a smug grin.
"You'll earn around £70,000 a year." Elizabeth said.
"A perfect attendance record WILL improve that by double, I assure you." Jeremiah said with a massive grin. "However, there is a new rule in place that you all must agree to."
"Everyone, sign this form. If you don't, you'll be let go." Elizabeth said before passing out a slip of paper to everyone.
As some more eager employees began to sign it without reading, Liz gasped. "What exactly does this say?! I'm-I'm misreading it, right?"
"I assure you, you're not." Elizabeth said with another heavy sigh. "Jeremiah here is a... Bodyjacker or a Bodyhopper. He gets to take over any of us, and our families, whenever he wishes, and keep it that way as long as he wishes."
"Elizabeth, you are forgetting part of it!" Jeremiah scolded with a finger wag. "I'll only take it if I win against your willpower every time I try to posses you. And if you resist me, you can ask me for any one favor."
"One favor?" Liz asked with a worried look on her face.
"Yes. Anything. I'm fabulously wealthy, and have many connections." Jeremiah said with an air of pride.
"So if I ask for a million quid?" Charlotte asked with a snicker.
"I can make it a billion."
"He's not joking. He showed me plenty of evidence, both of his powers, and his resources this morning." Elizabeth said. "And I've already signed. He hasn't tried to hop me yet."
"It's worth noting that this contract is not exclusive to the premises." Jeremiah said with a grin. "I could hop you at your homes."
"And, he's bought out Beautylicious as well." Andrea spoke up. "Carly told me that everyone there signed a weird thing from their new boss yesterday."
"Yes. Furthermore, I may keep my current body a secret. It's part of the fun, after all." Jeremiah said with a smirk. "And my current body is at my every whim. A winner-take-all situation."
The employees looked around at each other, and then up at Elizabeth and Jeremiah in unison. One by one, every single employee signed the form and handed it to Elizabeth before sitting down anxiously. Jeremiah looked around at his employees and future bodies and grinned. "You're dismissed. Good luck." He said with a wave before walking out... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
