As she sat at the kitchen table eating her noodles, Liz decided against telling Eric about the device's supposed capablities, he'd only think she was crazy anyway. And despite not knowing herself exactly what the device would do, Liz had also decided to test it on Eric when he got home. He was the ideal person, they were married, and she saw him every day, so swapping back wouldn't be a problem, she surmised.
Despite her efforts to reassure herself however, Liz's stomach was doing somersaults for some reason. She was nervous about using said device. As she finished off her meal, she heard the familiar sound of Eric's van door being slammed shut in the driveway. He was home.
"Okay, stay calm Liz." Liz muttered to herself. "And act natural. It's like every other night." she let a long breath escape her mouth.
The back door then suddenly opened and Eric entered the kitchen. "Hey honey, you have a good shift at work?" he asked.
Liz smiled and greeted her husband with a kiss and a hug. "It went okay, how was your day?" Liz replied. It was customary for the couple to first ask how each other's day went. Tonight was no different.
"Great day, no problems here." Eric said, as he set his jacket and toolbox down.
"Good to hear. Now wash those hands while I fix you something to eat." Liz smiled, pointing to the sink. She always made Eric wash his hands before doing anything else. Since he recovered broken down cars for a living, and therefore his hands were always covered in oil, grease and dirt. Liz fixed her husband a stir fry and then placed it on the table.
"Thanks luv." Eric said, sitting down and grabbing his fork.
"No problem. Enjoy, I'm just nipping upstairs." Liz nodded, before exiting the kitchen. But she didn't go far, instead she stayed in the living room and peered back into the kitchen at her husband. She had the device in her hand, and her heart rate was increasing.
"Well, here goes nothing." she said, taking a deep breath. She pointed the thing at Eric... and pressed the 'Alter Reality' button. Then she took a second deep breath... and hit the unlabeled red button. The sudden vibration of the device and the fuschia beam that shot from it and struck her husband... shocked Liz so much that she nearly dropped the device.
