"...A young woman by the name of Tessa Robbins."
Tessa Robbins? ... Woman? You couldn't believe your ears. Was he seriously saying that you were now a girl? This revelation hitting you like a ton of bricks.
"She was involved in the same car accident that you and your family were," Dr. Kerry continued, "along with her sister, Holly. Sadly neither of them made it. The impact of the crash left the both of them brain dead. Making them both ideal candidates for the procedure. Being that, apart from the brain damage, the rest of their bodies were both perfectly fine."
"Oh my God... I'm... I'm a girl?" you finally shrieked. Your croaky voice now sounding rather strange. As if you were only properly hearing it now for the first time. "You've turned me into a girl?"
"I'm afraid so, Tim," the other doctor, Saunder's replied. Stepping in now. "Unfortunately it was our only option. Your brain was in perfect working order but your body was failing. The machines could only keep you alive for so long. That is why Dr. Kerry here suggested the transplant procedure to your parents in the first place. To save your life."
"And... And Randall...?" It being quite apparent from what they'd told you, that he was in a similar state.
Saunders nodded. "Yes. He's now in the body of Tessa's sister. Her identical twin in fact."
Jesus! Not only were you and Randall now chicks, you were sister's too. Identical twin sisters. This was just too much to take. Feeling like any moment you were going to hurl.
"I know it's not exactly ideal, but it is better than the alternative. Plus, we've ran numerous tests and the procedure seems to have been a resounding success. So you have nothing to worry about on that front."
You knew you should be grateful for this, but right now you couldn't really feel anything other than complete and utter shock at the fact that you were now in some strange girl's body. It feeling a lot like you were in some terrible dream. How the hell were you supposed to live like this? How were the two of you supposed to live like this? Your goofy best friend being in the exact same boat as you.
"We can show you if you like. If that would help."
"Please," you replied, weakly. Very much needing to see what had been done. Your current drugged-up state making it all but impossible to actually see for yourself. Still not being able to move much more than your head.
"Alright," he said. Turning to the other doctor then and asking, "Dr. Kerry, can you please hand me that mirror?" Watching then as Kerry picked the small hand held mirror up off a nearby table and passed it to him. Feeling a growing sense of dread starting to build in your stomach as Saunders began to move it towards you.
Oh God. It's real! you gasped, catching sight of your reflection in the mirror. Finding there, staring back at you, was a woman you'd never seen before. Wearing an incredibly shocked expression on her face. Absolutely blown away by what she saw. I really am a girl! This... This is insane! It was. The strange, yet extremely cute looking brunette in the mirror being at least 3, maybe 4 years older, with long brown hair, that was all matted and disheveled. Her matching brown eyes red and puffy. While a series of small stitches decorated the top of one eye. It being utterly bizarre and surreal to realize that this girl, she was now you.
"As you can see, there really is very little sign of any external damage visible to the cranium," Dr. Kerry then decided to explain, while you continued to stare slack-jawed into the mirror. "We even managed to preserve Miss. Robbins' hair using a rather new and highly advanced, non-evasive surgery technique that I patented myself." Being seemingly unable to help his boasting. "To an outside observer, they wouldn't even know anything was amiss."
The other doctor quickly shushed him however. Clearly not thinking this either the time nor the place. Not that you were really listening to be honest.
"But... but how...?" you found yourself muttering, after the mirror was moved away and the rather eerie sight of the attractive brunette's face moving as you moved was gone. Looking to them both. "How am I meant to live like this? Like her?" It becoming quite obvious now that the voice coming from your throat was most definitely a girls. Distorted as it was through your ears. "...I can't be a girl. I can't!"
"I understand it won't be easy... Not at first, anyway. But you'll eventually get used to it. Besides, you'll have your best friend there to help you. You two are going to need each other now more than ever I would think." You didn't doubt that, glad in a way of this you supposed. You and Randall having been best friends for going on 13 years now. At times more like brothers than friends (even though you already had a brother). Now though, you were going to be twin sisters. You would now look exactly the same. A fact that, were you not now the opposite gender, might have once actually been quite cool. Often imagining it back when you were little. You definitely weren't little now though, and God knows how Randall would take this. Hell, God knows how you were. Still being too much in shock to properly process all of this.
"As for the rest of the... details," Saunders continued, suddenly appearing a lot more uncomfortable, "Well, perhaps its best we discuss them another time, when you're feeling more rested. For now though, I think it's probably best that you get some sleep. After the day you've had, you could certainly use it." His hand moving over to your IV drip. Fiddling with it a little.
You tried to protest, not wanting to go back to sleep again, but it was too late. Whatever drugs they were pumping you with had quickly taken effect and you felt yourself suddenly starting to drift. The last thought on your mind being, Why me? Why did the hell did this have to happen to me? as unconsciousness slowly began to take you...
