Here are some choices for furry (ie anthropomorphic) characters (and, yes, scalies, avians, and other furs-without-actual-fur are allowed).
1). Aaron (18) and Tyler (10) (both tigers). Tyler has always looked up to his tall, muscular big brother Aaron, who in turn has always wanted the best for his little bro. Tyler has always been on the small side for his age, especially for a tiger, and Aaron is starting to worry that Tyler may need a little boost. So he gives him a supplement that's supposed to help with development and growth, but he somehow must've missed the warning label where it said not to give it to those under the age of sixteen. Because when it gets into the blood stream of a kid like Tyler, there's no telling just how well it will work...
2) Ryley (12, ferret) and Sean (11, otter). While not actually brothers, these two have been so close for their entire lives that everyone refers to them as such. They are very friendly but also very competitive with each other, and when Sean starts to experience a growth spurt that pushes him a little past Ryley in height, Ryley becomes jealous, and finds a way to try and catch up with him, but overcompensates, leading Sean as the jealous one looking for a way to grow, and a vicious cycle begins...
3) Jason (17) and Kyle (12) (both foxes). Kyle wants desperately to have his older brother spend time with him, talk with him, and pay attention to him, but Jason is too involved with being a teenager and hanging out with other kids his own age. One night, Kyle sees a shooting star and wishes to grow big enough for Jason to notice him more. His wish starts to take effect the next morning, but as he gets bigger and bigger, he finds that getting Jason to pay attention to him might be harder than it looks!
