This choice: "Why do you seem so shocked?" • Go Back...Chapter #9"Why do you seem so shocked?" by: metra "Because none of this makes any sense to me!" You exclaimed.
"It sounded like the detective laid it out rather well for you," She replied plainly, "And you seem rather intelligent from what I've seen."
You shoot the wolf a look that said 'gee thanks'. It was at this point that you were able to actually take in the true size of the wolf as well as what she looked like. She stood well above the six foot mark possibly even near the seven foot mark. She had long black, curly hair that flowed down to her shoulders and striking golden eyes sitting atop her snout. Her fur was gray and well groomed much like her hair. And of course, she had a pair of pointed grey ears that sat atop her head though they were slightly obscured by her hair. She was dressed in what looked to be a S.W.A.T. uniform. Shoulder pads, elbow pads and knee pads were the basis for your assumption. Her fingertips were exposed as she wore a pair of fingerless gloves. The story was similar wither her feet as her claws and toes were exposed but the rest of her foot was covered in some kind of heavy duty wrap. The last thing the struck you was her size, she was easily twice your size and not in terms of height. She was simply larger than you, you didn't doubt that her palm could encompass your face like an NBA player's would encompass a basket ball. By the same token, you had now doubt she was as lean as a track sprinter. She was definitely well-suited for her role.
"You're right on both counts, however as I said before... I'm not from here. This.... this... this world is all wrong. Nothing makes sense here," You replied.
The wolf stared you down for a few moments before sitting down where the bear once was, "Normally, coming across a human wouldn't be a problem because humans know to either stay out of the city or make themselves inconspicuous. Otherwise, there is a group of humans who are very militaristic and bent on subduing the anthro race. As you've already seen most anthros don't take kindly to humans. Personally, I don't have a problem with them. My job is simply to keep the innocent safe regardless of their species, what happened in the past has nothing to do with you and I here and now. If you are telling the truth, you will be placed under police protection."
"Okay..." You replied slowly, "So-"
"However," The wolf interjected, "I cannot ignore possible threats. If you are with the group of humans I mentioned earlier and/or you have hostile intentions toward this city's inhabitants then I'll have to deal with you as a threat. If you lie to me and I find out your lying, I'll deal with you personally."
"And what does that mean?" You asked.
"I know from first hand that human's have very vivid imaginations..." The wolf mused, "So imagine me angry with you and then imagine what I might do to you." A look of mortification flashes across your face prompting the wolf to nod, "It looks like you understand the gravity of the situation, so I'm going give you a little more useful information. If your story is true it would mean that you've never seen an anthro before, so it would stand to reason that you have limited knowledge on us and our capabilities correct?" You nodded, "Then before we begin the interrogation, you should know that I fill the role of an interrogator because of some of my unique abilities."
"What do you mean?" You inquired.
"Tell me," The wolf prompted, "What do you hear, see and feel?"
You shrug, "I feel cold and hard handcuffs restraining me to a table. I hear the sound of an very quiet air conditioner and I see a rather intimidating anthro wolf if I'm perfectly honest."
The wolf nodded, "My senses are significantly heightened when compared to yours. I can see your pupils dilating, I can hear your breathing, I can smell the fear rolling off of your body and I can feel your arms trembling against the table because of the adrenaline running though your veins. If you lie to me, I will sense it through the changes in your body, just think of me as a biological lie detector... but more accurate." You nodded solemnly. "Now, this will be your first, best and only chance that you will have to tell me if the story you've been sticking to thus far is a lie and if your working with anybody who would threaten anyone else's safety."
"I've been honest with you since I got here," You replied, "I find it hard to believe that I could be suspected of hurting someone like you..." As those words left your mouth, you noticed the wolf's expression change for the briefest of moments from neutral to what you thought was surprise. You have no doubt that if you'd blinked you would've missed it.
"Very well then, let's begin," The wolf replied. The next few hours consisted of you being interrogated. She asked you questions about your life, questions about what you'd seen since your arrival and sometimes she'd ask you random questions about totally unrelated subjects. She also asked you some of the same questions more than once and every now and again she'd fill in the answer for you with an answer you'd already given her or one that she knew was different from what you'd already told her and then she'd ask you to confirm the answer in both cases. It was obvious that she was using more than just her abilities to determine whether you were lying, she was also trying to see if you'd change any of you're answers. After four hours of questioning the interrogation mercifully came to an end. At length, the wolf sat back in her chair and stared at you with her piercing eyes which seemed to glow even under the bright lights of the room you were in. You stared back at her taking in her expression, searching for even the slightest hint of what she might be thinking, and you were sure that she was doing the same. Time almost seemed to come to a stand still.
"Alright," The wolf said as she stood up effectively shattering the silence of the moment.
"Alright what?" You asked in confusion.
The wolf crossed her arms and stared down at you with a neutral expression, "I believe I've decided on what to do with you."
