"Inmate with a vendetta against him" didn't exactly narrow down the list of potential suspects. Just about every single inmate in the prison had something, or many things, against him! For all he knew, whoever was on the line was just one member of an entire angry mob of villains headed his way! And that might not have even been the worst of Ralph's troubles! The fact that the emergency generator hadn't come on by itself was troubling in its own right, but the weather forecast had shown clear skies all week! There was no way the power could have just "gone out" in the area like this. The both of these things together made Ralph absolutely certain that the building's power had been sabotaged. However, Ralph had no clue as to who or why. It couldn't have been one of the inmates, as they had all been accounted for last night. He supposed it could have been one of the few villains who had thus far either eluded capture or had proved themselves too difficult to capture like Waft or any of the Ancient villains. That explanation still didn't make much sense though. Why would they go out of their way to free the other villains when their competition had been reduced by at least ninety percent because of this place!?
Neither explanation made much sense to Ralph, and both were equally terrifying. Either one of the inmates had managed to somehow bypass all of the prison's security measures to kill the power, or there was at least one overly-powerful villain running amok in the place amongst all the other freed villains! The fear and uncertainty of the situation was too much to bear. He didn't dare step outside the room! Luckily, the warden's office was designed to act as a safe room. There was only one entry point, and it was behind a heavy, metal door. He just had to stay in his office, and wait for help to arrive! There was no need to...
Ralph froze up in terror when he heard a metallic clunking sound. It wasn't the door either! That's when Ralph looked up, and saw the one fatal flaw with his little office bunker. The vent. Normally, the vents were electrified in order to keep anyone from getting into them, but with the power out, there was nothing stopping the inmates from crawling through them!
Ralph looked on, paralyzed in fear as the vent grate clattered to the ground, and out of the vent came...
