David's POV
"Is that really you inside there, Cassandra?" touching David's shoulder, dad asked.
"Yeah, it's me, daddy." wincing, Cassandra replied. "I was always considered to be 'one of the guys'." he chuckled slightly. "I'll admit, I never expected to be that way literally."
Dad chuckled himself then sighed. "I would not have thought any different of you, had you decided to back out." serious, he said. "Please forgive me when I don't treat you as my 'little girl' anymore."
"That would be a bit awkward, if you did." blushing, Cassandra said.
"How are you holding up, David?" gently lifting Cassandra's chin to see her, mom asked. "Are you feeling okay?"
"I feel fine, considering." shrugging, I replied. "As you can guess, being a girl is going to take some getting used to." wincing, I added, "I'll accept any help I can get."
Mom smiled. "There is much to learn, Cassandra, err, David and I will help you all we can." gently, she said. "I expect you and your father to help David all you can in return."
"Of course." nodding, I replied. "We've already gone over each others daily routines."
"Talking about them and actually doing them are two different things, young lady." patiently, mom said. "There is an art to a woman cleaning and preparing herself for the day."
"Your mother is right, young man." eying Cassandra, dad said. "There is a certain ritual to men getting ready in the morning as well."
Cassandra and I turned to each other, uncertain. Although we had told each other we had to bathe each day, we did not go into any fine details.
Cassandra's POV
"Oh my..." remembering something, I thought. I didn't wear a pad before the switch, I was so nervous. I gulped slightly, which mom noticed. "My, err, her time of the month is due any day now."
"Is something wrong... David?" still not used to the switch, mom asked.
"Um... 'Aunt Flow' is due for a visit soon." wincing, I said. "We had not discussed that part of womanhood yet."
"Aunt Flow?" confused, David asked. "Who is she?"
"Were you wearing a pad before the switch?" turning to me, mom asked.
I shook my head and mom took David by the arm. "Come with me to the bathroom, dear." firmly but kindly, she said. "We'll need to cover the basics of a woman's menstrual cycle."
David's eyes went wide as she understood. "Oh, man..."
"Welcome to womanhood, David." giggling, mom said. "It's not as bad as you might think."
After mom had vanished upstairs with David, dad turned to me. "You will soon be on the receiving end of those mood swings you used to have during your time of the month." seriously, he said. "Try to be patient with her."
"I'll try, daddy." chuckling slightly, I said. "I feel I must point out, though, that men have mood swings too."
"That we do." nodding, dad said. "Its going to be a new and, I'm sure, sometimes frightening transition for you both."
We both paused, hearing David's high pitched scream coming from the upstairs bathroom.
