Harry started to doubt his own eyes, as his fingers reached for the page. Disappearing ink was a trick even muggle could do.
That theory vanished like the previous names, as Harry's fingers caressed the length of the page. His own name appeared, and in his own hand-writing.
He felt a connection with the book, even as it sat in his open hand. It had bonded ... and he was the new keeper of 'The Rules', he wasn't sure what that meant.
But a voice whispered inside his mind.
'My previous owners have passed on.' it paused for effect. 'Now. You are the keeper of the rules. The sole keeper, a position of great responsibility.'
"Did you hear anything?" he asked Hermione not sure if this was dark magic.
"I'm talking to Myrtle...." she answered, as she took in his pale face, she continued, "What do you mean... hear what?"
'I'm the spirit of the school. Harry.' The book answered. 'I'm no dark magic artifact.' it assured him.
The tone softened, 'I'm imbued with the essence of the school's founders. So a part of me does come from Salazar Slytherin.'
"You are dark magic." Harry barked aloud.
Hermione looked around for some danger, her wand lit and ready to cast. Harry needed to keep his secret until he found out more.
"Sorry, I was just meaning all this damage." he added.
'Part of me comes from Godric Gryffindor, another part of me from Rowena Ravenclaw and the final element from Helga Hufflepuff. And you don't consider them ..... tainted'.
It sounded almost offended.
"I just wish Hogwarts wasn't so damaged.' he thought, as he recalled all the fond memories from exploring the castle in the previous years.
