Chapter #3

Tim, the son

    by: AridWD Author IconMail Icon
"Mom, where do babies come from?" a small boy named Tom asked.

The mother, Linda, smiled and gently stroked her son's cheek. She frowned for a moment, clearly remembering and missing the time she had Tim in her womb...sleeping. It was such a blissful moment. She wasn't sure when she would ever return to that feeling again, especially when her husband had enough kids. Before she could daydream, she snapped out of it and decided to quench her son's curiosity which happened to be the most common question kids ask these days.

Without giving too much details as she did not want to damage her son's innocence, she looked down at her flat belly and patted it. Her son looked down and quirked an eyebrow, not understanding.

"You see...babies come from the womb of a mother..."

"The belly? I thought that's where food goes?" he asked, clearly not understanding the difference between womb and belly.

Linda found it amusing and quite adorable. She giggled and shook her head.

"No sweetie, there's a special 'belly' where the baby is taken care of until he is ready..."

Tom's eyes widened and glimmered, understanding a little now even though there weren't a lot of details put into the explanation. He put up his hands into a fist and eagerly jumped up and down, shaking his fists by his side.

"Cool! Can I see it? Can I?" he asked, giddy.

Linda smile falter and she wished she could tell him easily that he could...oh god, how she wish she could...she couldn't though. With a drop in her usual motherly and sweet tone, she shook her head sadly.

"Sorry sweetie, but...nobody can go back in after leaving..."

...nobody...

---------------------------------------

Tom woke up, his eye lids slowly opening there way to allow the dim light of sun from his window to enter. He stared at the ceiling with a frown.

It happened again...

...the same dream...and each time, he feels a cold disappointment filling him.

At the age of 17, turning 18 in a month, Tim was a teenager with black, straight hair, brown eyes, and a perfectly oval face with a few freckles over his cheeks. He was neither scrawny or fat; however, he didn't have any note-worthy muscles.

As a student in his last year of high school, he had already worked and gotten admitted to the college he wanted to go to. He was good in his grades, not as good as he wished, but good enough for his parents. Really though, he happened to procrastinate a lot, but when it came to deadlines, he'd quickly shape himself up.

He had a sister who was the same age as him named Tina. She and him were on pretty good terms, but part of that reason was probably because she respected his privacy and he did the same. Other than that, they hardly fought...a few times perhaps, but its to be expected when you're sharing a house with the same person of age and not to mention, the opposite gender.

Just like Tom, she had black hair and brown eyes. Typically, she tied her long hair into a pony tail so that she didn't have to worry about it getting in the way. At the same time, she also had the same build as him...which was okay for her since she was a girl, though he preferred it he could at least build up some muscle tone. She was also flat-chested. One time, Tom had made a joke regarding that...

...Never again.

Aside from that, he had the feeling that she was more sociable than him. She denied it before, but he could tell since they go to the same school together. She was like a magnet, attracting girls and boys. Tom would never understand why she was so popular. As for him, he had several friends that he'd go hang out with and perhaps watch some late night football. For him, popularity never came as a concern. Probably because he was a boy.

As for their parents, they were on good terms. His mother, Linda, was in her mid-thirties and considering the dream he had, she had not changed that much at all. Sometimes stress could be seen in her eyes, but other times, she was the sweetest and most-caring mother ever. From his talk with his friends, he had to admit how grateful he was to be born into this family compared to his other friends' family.

If you wanted to talk about how attractive their mother was, well...she was once a bikini swimsuit model for a magazine before she met their father. If that didn't tell people who attractive she was, then those people obviously didn't look at the magazines and see the unspoken requirements for applicants...seriously.

His father was actually his mother's agent before they agreed to marry. His father always bragged how lucky he was and teased us that we may never get as lucky as he was. Personally, Tom could care less, but he supposed it would be nice to marry a model...after carefully examining the personality, that is. Now, in order to support the family and because his mother wouldn't allow him to continue in the model industry, he became a financial adviser. A pretty big and dull contrast from his previous work. He didn't seem to regret it though as it seemed that supporting the family made him happy enough.

Tom sighed. Speaking of whether or not he'll be happy, he looked to his clock to see the time and date.

What was the date?
