"Be at peace... Eton." said Myrrh. "It was the only way we could save your life."

"How can I 'be at peace'!?" asked James, annoyed. "You turned me into a kid with wings!"

Unknown to James, now Eton, his wings had changed to a mixed shade of pink and black before turning an all off white color as he suddenly stopped and asked, "What did you call me?"

Myrrh smiled. "Eton, that is your name now." she said. "New life, new name." she blushed slightly, her wings showing a pink highlight. "That is the tradition when a human is rebirthed into a Misterian. You are my son now."

"What of my family, my friends?" demanded Eton. "They will be worried about me, once they discover I am missing."

Myrrh sighed. "You know that matter can not be created or destroyed, it only changes form." she said. Eton nodded. "When you became a little Misterian child, due to the rebirth process, what was left of your body was left behind."

Eton gasped. "You mean..."

Myrrh sadly nodded. "Your 'remains' will be found in a bloody mess on the alley floor." she said. "James will be pronounced dead by a horrific death, those who knew you will morn their loss and move on." she saw Eton's wings turn a shade of blue and black, showing your emotions, and quickly added, "That would have been your fate if we had not acted as the bullet had severed your main artery, just above your heart."

Eton sighed, wanting to scream. "Where do I go from here?" he asked.

"I do not expect you to accept or even adjust to your new life over night, Eton." said Myrrh. "It will take time but I promise you, I will do all I can to raise you right."

Eton turned away from Myrrh to look in the mirror again and frowned. "So, I'm now a little girl named Eton?" he asked, not really liking the thought. "I guess that explains why my chest is itching so bad." he looked closer. "Why is one of my eyes green and the other brown?"

Myrrh laughed. "No, you are a boy named Eton." she said, smiling. "Here, the boys and girls look the same on the surface as the men and women share all aspects of life."

Eton's eyes widened. "All aspects?" he asked.

Myrrh nodded, giggling. "Normally, I would not explain this to a ten year old but you are mature enough to understand." she said, lightly teasing. "Briefly, men carry their 'equipment' inside their 'vagina', which only comes out when having sex. The girls carry the child but the men endure the pain through a telepathic link. Once the child is born, the man and woman share the duty of breast feeding." she paused, smiling. "In case you are wondering, yes, boys here have monthly periods but they are to expel dead sperm so to the guarantee pregnancy of their mate during mating season."

Eton shook his head, it was a lot to process. "This is deep." he thought. "It can't be real, I'm dreaming."

"It's no dream, Eton." replied Myrrh, surprising him. "We are a telepathic race, I heard your thought but don't worry, you will learn to control your thoughts and block out the overly curious in time. As for the color of your eyes, it is a mark that you were once a human who was rebirthed after a heroic deed. You will be openly accepted."

Eton sighed then asked, "What of your wings changing color from time to time?"

Myrrh smiled, pleased that her new son's anger was slowly turning to curiosity. "It shows our emotions." she replied. "When we are happy, our wings are white. When angry, they turn black. Pink is embarrassment, blue is sadness, indigo is fear, and so on."

"Curiouser and curiouser." said Eton. "How deep does the rabbit hole go?"

Myrrh tilted her head. "I'm sorry, the... rabbit hole?"

Now it was Eton's turn to laugh, his first since his transformation. "It's from a popular fairy tale on Earth, named Alice in Wonderland." he explained. "How curious is your world?"

Myrrh smiled, understanding a little better. "Will you let me show you?" she asked.

Eton nodded and Myrrh smiled, touching a section of the wall...
