This choice: Underground, they find themselves in front of an open Vault door • Go Back...Chapter #3 Underground, they find themselves in front of ... by: Dayeandknight Jerry woke slowly, his head fuzzy and his ears still ringing. It took him a few moments before he remembered the danger he and his team were in. He staggered to his feet and inspected his surroundings, though not very quickly as to not make himself sick. They were in a cavern of some kind. Clear to his eyes, the cavern was partially artificial. He didn't have time to think about it just yet, first, he needed to check on his team.
Daniel was startled awake as Jerry approached. Reflex took over and Daniel lifted the gun, still clutched in his hand, and pulled the trigger. It was only after he heard it click that he realized what he had done. Lucky for Jerry, the mud from the storm had ruined the pipe pistol and a clicking sound was all it made.
“Sorry...I didn't mean...” Daniel tried to explain but Jerry just walked passed him.
Samuel was awake holding onto Jamie leg, keeping pressure on the wound. Jamie was out cold, for better or worse. Samuel rocked back and forth slightly, repeatedly muttering to himself that Jamie was going to be fine. Jerry shook his shoulder lightly.
“Sam, Sam I need you to listen to me. You need to get yourself together. I need you and so does Jamie,” His voice was stern but gentle and just what Samuel needed. He nodded and grew silent and stopped rocking. Jerry tore a ripped sleeve from his clothes and and fashioned a tourniquet around Jamie's leg.
“Figures that its our medic that gets hurt,” Jerry thinks to himself.
Now with a head count, Jerry looked around at his surroundings. Above him was a massive hole where they must have fallen from. Again, he had to move slowly or the rad induced nausea would kick in. Looking behind him, he finally saw it through the darkness.
“A vault...” he almost whispered.
The other two squinted but weren't able to see as well as Jerry in that lighting. Daniel got to his feet and joined Jerry while Samuel scooped Jamie into his large arms and carried him over. Once they all got closer, the others saw what Jerry saw, the closed entrance to a vault with a large “63” painted on the front. There was also a bunch of scaffolding and a catwalk.
“How do we get in?” Jerry asked Daniel.
Daniel eyed the scaffolding before walking down the catwalk finding a terminal. It took a bit of work but he made it happen. The sound of sirens sounded as the giant door opened.
“No safe nor terminal in this world I can't crack,” Daniel said to himself.
“He looks real bad, Jerry,” Samuel said looking down at his friend in his arms.
“Come on, there might still be some meds inside. A stimpack if we are lucky,” Jamie told them.
“Well, going by our luck so far...?” Daniel said but followed none the less. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
