"All right, looks like I get the last one," Michael said, looking around the table for something he wanted to swap.
"Damn, this sucks," Philip said, bummed that he hadn't won anything. "Maybe next time."
"Hey Michael," Anna said, looking over at her brother, a twinkle of mischief in her eyes. "If you let me pick your swap, I'll make sure that Josie can stay over... tonight and tomorrow night."
"Oh, you have to go for it hun," Josie said, pressing herself close against him and running a hand down his thigh. "I know so many things now that I want to share with you. You wouldn't believe the kind of girl your mom was when she was our age."
"Um... okay," Michael said, thinking with something other than the head atop his shoulders. "Sure." Leaning over, Anna whispered in his ear the way she had with Josie, but this time Michael backed up and stared at her, a little dumb struck. "Really? You want me to swap that?"
"Trust me, it will work out," she said with a grin.
"Okay then," Michael said, drawing a deep breath. "I want to swap jobs with Cindy."
"Wait, did that just do what I think it did?" Cindy asked.
"Yes," Melody said cheering. "Anna, you're brilliant. Cindy, this is going to be awesome. Now, you can come to school tomorrow, you'll be a student with me and everyone else."
"You know," Cindy said, smiling for the first time in a few rounds. "This could actually be kind of fun. It will be nice to have a day away from the cooking and cleaning and shopping. I think I will have fun tomorrow. But I'm still not sold on having Josie over for a night, much less two! Especially after that last swap of hers."
"Okay then, Philip, Melody, why don't you guys head home, I think I hear dad coming home now and we can talk it over."
"Okay, thanks Ms. Ferguson," Philip said to Anna, making the polite exit he usually would have made to Cindy to Anna instead. "Thanks for letting us play so late."
"Yeah, thanks Anna, maybe you'll let us come over for the next one," Melody said standing to leave.
