Joseph (Otherwise known as me, PKMNGod) was walking through Petalburg City, as now having four of the eight required Pokemon Gym Badges to face the Petalburg Gym, whose Leader was the normal type user Norman.
Joseph entered the Gym with his 3 Pokemon, Marshtomp, who Joseph felt was close to evolving, Swellow, the first Pokemon Joseph had every caught; of course started as a small Taillow, and Manectric, a Pokemon he had found abused in the wild, who now is a faithful partner.
Joseph saw Norman the gym leader, talking to a girl, this girl who knew as May, a Pokemon Coordinator who traveled with the Legendary Pokemon Trainer Ash Ketchum. May seemed to have tears streaking down her cheeks, as she ran outside, she accidentally bumped into Joseph.
"I'm sorry for my daughter, are you here for a Gym Battle?" Norman asked. "Yeah." Joseph said.
After the battle with Norman, which ended in close success due to his Slaking falling before Joseph's Marshtomp. By this time, May had run inside to her room.
