Forgotten Heroism.

You screamed at the top of your now smaller lungs, finding yourself in a strange room and in a stranger body as it was the wrong age and wrong gender from what you had the day before. You hardly noticed the hurried footsteps approaching your room as you were in a panic but soon your sister, Sarah and mom entered the room, looking concerned.

"She's finally come out of her shock." sitting in the bed with you, mom said. she took you into her arms and began to gently stroke your long hair with her hand. "Easy, Michelle. Mommy is here, everything is okay..."

"You call this okay!?" startled by your new voice, you asked. "I'm a little girl! What happened!?"

"You... don't remember?" stunned, Sarah asked. "Michelle, its been almost a month since the fire..."

"Fire!?" alarmed, you asked. "What fire!? What are you talking about!?"

"Easy, sweetie." hugging you, mom cooed. "We will explain, just calm down a minute."

"Just tell me what happened." trembling, you begged. "Why am I now a little girl?"

"About a month ago, our house was struck by lightning." calmly, mom explained. "The power of the strike shorted out the old electric wiring and started a fire." she teared up, adding, "The house was engulfed in flames within minutes."

"You were the only one who woke up to the building smoke and flames." tears flowing, Sarah added. "You dragged mom out first but when you carried me out, the ceiling above us began to crumple and you literally threw me out the door."

Sarah began to cry as mom took over. "Sarah landed safely on the front lawn but the house collapsed onto you, we feared you had been killed." rocking you, she said. "The doctors told us that there was no way to save your body but they could save your mind."

"Save my mind?" your face turning pale, you asked. "How?"

"An experimental procedure, making use of a bio-mechanical android." wincing, mom replied. "I don't understand it all but they essentially transferred all data from your brain to the bio-circuited computer matrix of the android."

"It was that or watch you die a slow and painful death." composing herself, Sarah said. "The body you are now in is basically biological. You will age and develop normally, eat, use the bathroom..." she winced before adding, "however..."

"However, what?" shaken, you asked. "Why am I little girl!?"

"A ten year old girl was the only model they had on hand to transfer your mind into before you died." rocking you again, mom replied. "We explained this to you in the hospital last week when you regained consciousness." she paused. "That was when you fell into a state of shock."

"They released you from the hospital, still in that state, yesterday afternoon." softly, Sarah said. "We've been waiting for you to come out of it since."

"Please don't go into shock again." lightly shaking you, mom pleaded. "Being a girl is not that bad, Sarah and I will help you to adjust."

You were silent for a moment before you...
