"So, what does this one do?" Vanguard asked, pointing at the one with the fat man.
Ruma looked at it. "Oops! My mistake." She placed another one next to it, which had a wolf engraved upon it. "This one might be more to your liking."
"So, just what do these charms do?" Vanguard asked.
"They give you certain attributes of the creatures they represent; skin and bones as strong as that of a dragon, the strength of an orc, the agility of a wolf, and so on," said Ruma.
"And this one?" Vangard asked, pointing at the charm with the fat man. "Lets you eat everything at those All-You-Can-Eat Buffets, right?"
"No, but when you're stuck in a situation where the only thing remotely edible is something like shoe leather, it will make your stomach strong enough to handle it," said Ruma.
"So, you don't use it to beat a Pie-Eating Contest?" Vanguard asked.
"I'd advise against it," said Ruma. "These charms carry a price however; you can only use them for twenty minutes at a time, and don't go over that time, for the Price will come from you. For instance, wear the dragon charm, and you could fall from the highest part of the tallest building in town, only to immediately get run over by five herds of horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and chickens, and stomped on by a flock of dragons, who decided to play with you as well, and you'd be fine, but once you took the charm off, you'd feel like you was in a fight where a dozen men all hit you with a chair. Similar situations occur in the others, where your body is utterly exhausted, and you can't really do anything, and you can only use the charm once every twenty-four hours."
"Only once every twenty-four hours?" Vanguard asked. "Why is that?"
"You know those guys who always take those substances that aren't good for them, in order to feel normal?" Ruma asked.
"I've seen that sort of thing," said Vanguard.
"Similar situation," said Ruma. "Use these things more than recommended, and you'll start to use these just to feel normal."
Vanguard gulped. "So, this is serious."
"Very serious."
"So, these things won't transform me into something like a dragon?"
Ruma laughed. "That would take a whole lot more magic than is in these charms."
"I see," said Vanguard.
"So, take your pick."
Vanguard picked....
