That's mine!" She rushed over and pocketed the bottle. "How many times have I told you not to touch my stuff?"
Mark didn't stop staring at the tail to respond to her. "Uh... I'm pretty sure this is a more pressing matter."
Julia sighed. "This was my... 'candy,' Mark. I was going to have half and share the other half with Tobias--I mean, with my friends." Mark would have to talk to her about this "Tobias" person, but that would be later.
"Well, why does Lucas have a tail? And where did you get this?" Mark asked.
Julia dodged the first question. "I ordered this online, and the blue pills are supposed to be for the guy and the red for the girl. It's uh, 'relationship' candy."
"That doesn't explain why he has a tail. It looks like a lizard's tail."
The entire time, Lucas was simply sitting in the couch, watching this sibling back-and-forth banter. He wanted to pipe in, but he wasn't sure if this was some sort of family thing. Actually, on second thought, why wasn't he more shocked at the fact that he had a tail? He pondered that for a few minutes, but came to the conclusion that although he didn't know, he was oddly more at peace with it than his friend. The conversation he had been missing wasn't very entertaining, either.
"That doesn't even make sense!" Mark was making wild hand motions at this point.
"Look, I don't really want to talk about it, okay? I don't know what I'm going to do about this... you need exactly ten of a pill, and now I'm missing a blue one." Julia tapped her forehead for a moment and declared, "Okay, Lucas. It's your lucky day. I'll let you become enlightened with me. You can keep all the blue ones; I'll deal with Tobias later. Trust me, it's super cool, I'll show you. Just eat them all at once." She held out her hand, full of nine more blue pills.
Mark's mouth was agape. "Dude, you can't just eat random candy that my sister gave you--you have a tail! What are you doing? Are you even listening to me?"
Lucas was strangely calm. Maybe it was the effect of the pill, or maybe it was some weird psychological thing, but he felt unnaturally okay about eating a bunch of pills that he knew nothing about.
"You've got to be stupid if you're going to eat those. Are you going to listen to your best friend or my sister?" Mark looked about ready to bat the pills out of Julia's hand.
