Sean didn't see the prince pick up the scroll. The carriage trundled down the road, he felt it not bounce off his thigh. Turning he already saw the scroll in the Kelos' hands. With a swift swipe, he scored his finger across the seal, and broke open the parchment.

Sean's 'NO!' was already too late, as golden light shone up from the unfurled page. It basked the prince's face, until he dropped it to the floor of the carriage. The light was already dimming, and fading as Sean curled up, covering his face with the pitiful protection of his cloak.

The two men, felt the carriage lurching to a halt, as the driver pulled up on the reins. The guards riding escort approaching to investigate the bright flash of light.

Slowly Sean lowered his cloak-wrapped arm, and took in the Prince. The skin of his face was rippling and shifting, his hands desperately trying to keep his features in place. It was difficult to read a coherent expression, but his panic was clear even to a blind man.

"What's happening... what's happening to me?" the prince's voice cracked as he spoke.

Captain Philips wrenched open the door to the carriage, and saw the Prince his features suffused with a pale glow.

"Majesty?"

Kelos tumbled into the Captain's arms.

"Help me, please!" He grabbed the lapel's of the officer's uniform.

With a yelp, he saw the glow had now spread to his hands.

Behind him, Sean tried to clear things up. Putting a calming hand on the Prince's shoulder, he felt it move beneath his fingers. It distorted and became thinner.

"Your Majesty, Captain. The Prince has prematurely opened one of the scrolls."

"This isn't my fault. You didn't warn me! Why didn't you warn me?"

Kelos' accusations would have continued had his voice not become so shrill and feminine.

"Sire. I tried. Truly, I did."

Tears welled up in the corner of Kelos' eyes.

"So what does the spell do?" The captain asked.

Feeling the presence of his guards standing gawping behind him, he directed them to form a cordon against possible attack.

With a low throaty growl he turned his attention back to Sean.

"The scroll?"
