Michelle wasn’t surprised by how hyper both Robby and Lilly were; after all, they’d spent most of the last 10 hours cooped up in the car. After checking in and getting the room keys, Michelle brought the kids upstairs to the room – a suite with an enclosed, private patio. “Stay here while I go get the luggage from the car.” Setting the two kids on the couch, Michelle said, “Once we’ve relaxed for a bit, we’ll go get some dinner.”
Both Robby and Lilly excitedly said, “Okay mommy.”
Waiting until Michelle left the room, Lilly turned to her brother and said, “You want to mess with Mommy?”
Back when they were kids the first time, Robby and Lilly would often team up to mess with their mother; that is when they weren’t picking on each other. Robby looked at Lilly and said, “Sure, I guess; what did you have in mind?”
Reaching into the front pocket of her overalls, Lilly pulled out the medallion, “You become my twin sister and we swap clothes; we’ll see how long it takes for Mommy to figure out who’s who.”
Robby wrinkled his nose in disgust, “Eww; I don’t want to be an icky girl.” Looking at Lilly, he said, “Why don’t you become my twin brother instead?”
Making the same face as Robby, Lilly said, “No way; I don’t want to be a boy!”
Getting up from the couch, Robby stood in front of Lilly and said, “Well one of us has to use the medallion; Mommy’s going to be back soon.”
Hopping off the couch, Lilly said, “Why don’t we do rock paper scissors; best two out of three, the loser becomes the winner’s twin.”
With a shrug, Robby said, “Okay; but there’s one problem, what’s the loser going to touch the medallion to?”
Lilly shook her head, “No wonder you’re not doing well in school; you can’t think outside the box.” Pointing to the windbreakers sitting on the chair nearby, Lilly said, “We’ll use our jackets, dummy.”
Robby scowled at Lilly; his performance issues at school were a sore subject for him. He did well with English and History, not so much with Math. “I’m not a dummy, Lilly; I-I just have difficulty with Algebra.”
“Whatever you say, baby brother.” Looking at Robby, Lilly said, “Come on; lets do this before Mommy comes back.”
The twins spent the next couple of minutes doing rock paper scissors; but Robby won in the end. Pointing at his sister, Robby said, “Ha! You’re going to be a boy!”
Discouraged by the results of the competition, Lilly said, “_______.”
