You, Jessica, arrive at work early. You're excited. A new assignment and you were specifically requested. Today was going to be different, special. A day that you would always remember.
You pull in and can park near the entrance. There's no other cars in the lot. Of course, it's Saturday, and only rarely is anyone in on Saturday, and if they do, it's usually much later in the morning. It was only a quarter of eight.
You're dressed very casually since it was Saturday. Some loose shorts, a nice T-shirt, and sandals. Your short brown hair is just hanging down to your shoulders, but it still looks good.
The assignment had come in an e-mail Friday morning. It just arrived from nowhere which was a little strange, but so had everything that had happened this week. It had said:
You have been personally selected to be part of a new, highly advanced software program. Both your mental and physical attributes were evaluated as highly desirable in the program.
Work will require you to perform outside the office during all hours, but you will not have to report to the office daily, only as needed. You will receive special program software to control and augment your abilities as well as special equipment to interface with the main program.
Please report to your desk on Saturday before 8 AM to begin your indoctrination."
This sounded like something you really wanted to be a part of. You were floating all day Friday and anxious to tell your friends that evening. They were having a going away party since they were traveling for the next few months. You would miss them since you had no other real friends in town except your office acquaintances. You made a note that you must get out more and meet new people. Hopefully, this would be a big start on that.
Late Friday afternoon, a tech had come by to start installing your new computer. Ever since the virus had hit the system earlier in the week, all sorts of weird things had been happening. The tech had a laptop and some other equipment including biometric interfaces. He wasn't very talkative or willing to explain much. He acted more like a robot getting the equipment out, and eventually told me to go home after you signed some papers accepting the equipment and said it would be ready for you the next morning.
You were more than willing to leave early and bolted from the office after signing for the equipment along with some waivers and stuff to allow the program to use you. Now here, you are pumped and anxious to get totally immersed in the program.
You head right to your desk and find all the new equipment. The laptop is docked to a station with a monitor that looks extremely sophisticated technology-wise with a web cam on top. There is a biometric pad connected as well as a headset with mic. There is a very long cord running from the laptop down over the desk and back up to a small round cylinder a little bigger around than your thumb and about twice as long. There was also a tube of something that you think must have been left accidentally by the tech.
