This choice: Raven doesn't know she is still searching • Go Back...Chapter #6Jinx and Starfire agree to help by: Duskmor "I'm not sure, When I banished him back to the demonic realm I thought I was sealing him there" Raven grew more and more serious her body trembling "But I am still a conduit for him, my powers are still coupled with his existence. I want to know if he is banished or actively seeking power again. If he may be assembling a force in the demon realm to invade our dimension again, if he has a way to return or... if he will find a way to use me again..."
Starfire sat silently on her pillow staring at Raven unsure how to comfort her friend. Jinx just looked down at what little tea was left in her cup reminded of her own dark past and life of wrong doing. Little was said between the girls for a while as dark pasts and evil intentions weighed on their minds. At last of all people Jinx spoke up in comfort of Raven.
"Don't worry, we'll help you handle this" Jinx tried to reassure her doing her best to look at Raven with compassion. Starfire smiled brightly in support and nodded at Raven.
"Thank you both" Raven allowed herself to smile "Now lets all join hands, I'll chant the contact spell, you both just need to clear your minds and keep focus on the relay stone on that pedestal"
The three heroine sat around the circle with linked hands as Raven chanted. Slowly a pale light grew inside the hole in the stone larger and larger till it made contact with the sides. As the light reached the sides of the stone it shifted to a dark purple and the stone stood up swiftly balancing on one side. Raven's eyes began to glow too shifting to a lighter shade of purple and the light in the stone shifted to match. As Raven chanted she kept concentrating on the spiritual signature of her contact and leading the stone along with her tuning it to her intended target like a dial on a radio. The Symbols on their hands started to glow as well, the light from each symbol making contact between hands then wrapping around their arms like vines towards the symbols on the chests. The growing lines of light encircled the symbols on the chest without touching them and continued on after making a full loop around the chest runes and on towards the other set of linked hands.
The Stone in the center began to float slightly turning in sync with the speed of the glowing lines wrapping around the three girls. Starfire and Jinx were a little unnerved by the lines progressing across them but held their focus as Raven had instructed. The light in the stone was now a dull pink and a light haze of the same color was emanating from it. Small pink sparkles and a light vapor seemed to obscure the stone slightly.
"Almost made contact" Raven paused her chanting to inform the girls "When it connects don't be so alarmed you lose your focus or we'll have to start over"
Each girl nodded silently as Raven took up her chant again. The color of the stone and the effects around it shifted to a brighter pink but with a more flesh colored hue filtered in. The vapor around the stone seemed to thicken and grew heavy as the haze seemed to flow out of the stone and down the edges of the pedestal with weight. Starfire and Jinx could start to smell the vapor as it grew thicker in the air. It was a dank pungent smell with an underlying trace of brimstone. Starfire and Jinx were thankful the smell seemed to stay low in the air without clouding it too much as it was difficult to think straight as the light traces of the musky yet heady smell were already making their heads spin slightly. Suddenly a voice broke the deadpan chanting of Raven and make Starfire jump slightly almost losing her focus.
"Who dares interrupt the slumber of Talarok the master of satia- eh?" The voice trailed off "Little mortal? Is that you I sense?"
"Yes it is me" Raven replied ending her chant "Pandora" Raven looked at Jinx and Starfire briefly to remind them to avoid using real names.
"Ah yes, Pandora, it is you" The deep voice mused "I almost didn't recognize you, there is some interference with your spiritual presence... or is it possibly, you've invited guests...?"
"Indeed" Raven spoke clearly and flatly trying to show no expression in her voice.
"So you have!" The demonic voice celebrated "I take it then you have decided to accept my offer to show you more about this demon you are seeking. Then you are also going to tell me why a mortal so young and innocent is so invested in Trigon?"
"Absolutely not" Raven's voice grew slightly unable to refute the question entirely monotone "As I have explained before that information is not being offered at this time" Jinx and Starfire continued to look at the stone with all the focus they could spare are they kept stealing glances of Raven's stolic flat emotionless face as she communed with the disembodied voice emanating from the stone.
The voice chuckled slightly "Little mortal I do not wish to indulge these cat and mouse games forever" The was a slight pause as the voice continued with a thoughtful hum "You know if you are going to access the information I have you must start making greater concessions than just the name of who you seek or agreeing to let me share your eyes on these meetings, very pretty friends you have brought by the way" The voice added with another chuckle. Starfire and Jinx almost looked at Raven in shock as the connection wavered slightly.
"Relax now young mortals" The voice cautioned them "I can see this link is tenuous with such easily distracted participants Pandora. I think we can find a new arrangement for greater information however. But first allow me to provide a bit of assistance..." The voice trailed off and there was some silence for a time. Jinx and Starfire both took the brief pause to each shoot Raven harsh and inquisitive looks respectively for the revelation the demon could see them. Raven didn't respond trying to keep her eyes trained on the stone.
"Hey, red" The voice returned "you with the green eyes, mind grabbing that mirror on the table beside you?" Raven's expression grew concerned, she hadn't looked at the table, how could he see the mirror on it. Starfire looked up at Raven questioning if she should. "It's alright you can break your focus now, I took care of it" the voice softly encourage.
Raven's expression turned to shock. "Don't pick it up!" Raven called out to Starfire who was still wondering if she should do as the voice was demanding. Quickly Raven closed her eyes and turned groping for her bed yanking the cover off it once she found it. Raven turned back and opened her eyes to throw the cover over the stone. "He established a link on his side so we don't need to focus to keep the link open but that means he can remotely view anything in sight of the stone"
"do ho ho ho" The voice let out a boisterous laugh "very clever of you my little sorceress"
"Friend Ra---er Pandora?" Starfire tentatively asked still trying to look at the lump in the covers unsure if she still needed to focus "What is happening?"
"You can stop focusing, the link is solid now, as I said" Raven's attempt to remain monotone was faltering as she was flustered by this development "With the stone active like this he could have viewed my room and looked for clues as to who I am... I should have been more careful and done this somewhere like the basement"
"I see so you need to be careful not to give him any hints, even outside there may be something he could use as a mirror in view of your eyes to see you" Jinx put together
"Indeed!" The voice chuckled on "Up till now this resourceful little vixen has been very careful to hide anything useful to me even when I tried to fool her by barraging for use of her eyes she was careful not to have anything in her field of vision that gave away who she is or that maybe reflective. Unfortunately the stone only replicates the area surrounding it not spirits within it, and you were quick enough to cover it before I spied any clues... I was too cocky and gave away I had a link..." the voice snickered harder on that last comment.
"You were hoping I'd call one of them by name or have an emotional outburst strong enough for you to overwhelm me" Raven flatly stated again regaining her composure
"He he... guilty" The voice replied
"Should we be worried here?" Jinx relaxed no longer needing to maintain the focus "Seems like you're not as 'in control' as you led us to believe"
"It's fine" Raven quickly countered. "There will be no more surprises"
"Oh I'm not so sure about that..." the voice returned with enthusiasm. "I think it's time we get down to business, and since you have put your foot down on my payment of information we need a new bargain if you want to continue from where we left off..."
"What is it you want?" Raven kept her clam and stated the question as evenly as she could still anticipating the worst.
"Well you've proven a fun challenge so far, keeping your cards close to your chest, out smarting some of my better gambits, you even fulfilled my request to perform the relay with two guests and still thwarted me using it to spy your identity. And since you are well aware of my intentions and still invited two friends but didn't bother to obscure their faces I can only assume they don't have any magical essence to corrupt or twist so you must not be living with other magic users as I assumed..."
"Just get to the point Talarok" Raven demanded
"Heh...Ok have it your way" The voice shrugged "If you want to continue this deal... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
