Starglint, the next badger lord of Salamandastron stood in the middle of Mossflower wood, his bastard sword strapped to his back as he looked around among the trees. The woods were silent underneath the singing of the birds and the chirps of the insects in the humid dusk air. The heavy linen cloak clung tight to his skin, keeping the moisture off of his fur before he started to make his stride. The lord had only recently come into realization that he was to go to the volcanic mountain, as miles away his father, at that moment, finally had succumb to a sea rat attack on the shore, made successful by the efforts of the Long Patrol, but at heavy losses.
Starglint felt the pull to the west, but in his brain rumbled some thoughts. Were he to go straight to the mountain, he would have opportunity to seek revenge and justice for his Father's death, find the band of sea rats and rid the lands of their stinking presence. The yearn for the taste of their blood is strong.
However, in the wood, He had been tracking a band of vermin for nearly two seasons, getting painfully close to their lair. It would feel wrong to simply abandon one's hunt when the price is merely a claw's breadth away.
In a more base need, Starglint pondered to find a badger sow, to give her his heir, so that were he to fall in battle, there would be another to avenge him. His heart raced in such a thought, curling his lips at the prospect.
