The woman behind the counter handed Ashley a small ring. Ashley held it up to her face and twirled it between her fingertips, examining it.
"It's beautiful...!" she whispered. The ring was solid green, and sparkled it a hypnotic way.
"Free of charge.", the storekeeper smiled with a quick nod. "A token of luck for your academic career."
"Wow, than you!" Ashley giggled with delight. "That's incredibly generous. You're sure? This looks really exquisite..."
"Erm, no." the storekeeper interrupted, shaking her head furiously. "It's nothing special. But I want you to have it."
Ashely was beaming as she exited the store and put the ring on. During the entire walk to her car, she held her hand in front of her. It was even prettier in the sunlight! But why was that old woman so anxious to give it away...?
