Chapter #12

Protecting the Girl

by: Bruce Lee Gifford Jr. Author IconMail Icon
Astrid wasn't really asking the kitsune for help. She just asked for help in general, because she saw the kitsune as a dangerous creature, just like the two people after her. So, she knew that she really needed help from two things. Little did Astrid know that the kitsune wasn't going to harm her. He had never harmed the humans that hurt him. So, why would he hurt a girl that had done him no wrong.

The kitsune then heard more humans rushing towards the cave. The kitsune turned to the entrance of the cave and waited, hoping that no one else would find the cave. He could of used a spell that would make the men not see the cave and see some sort of illusion, but that could take too much time and they would have been there by the time it was done.

"Hey, there's her footprints!" a man yelled.

"Good! Where did that little bitch go?" the woman asked.

"Straight into that rock wall," the man said, "Hey wait, it's a cave!" When the man and the woman pushed away the vines and entered the cave, they were greeted by the sight of the kitsune. "Oh God! It's a kitsune!" the man exclaimed.

Then, the kitsune did something terrifying and amazing. It started to grow larger. Size changing was the only magical power the kitsune had that isn't an illusion. The two humans stood there and looked up in shock and awe as the kitsune grew at a rapid rate. Astrid was frightened, as well, and she backed up into a wall as far away from the kitsune as she possibly could.

Once the kitsune was inches away from the top of the cave, which is about sixty feet high, he stopped growing and looked down at the tiny humans before him. The kitsune then lowered his head in front of them and growled barring his sharp teeth. The two humans were petrified and they turned around and ran as fast as their legs could take them.

Once they were gone, the kitsune turned his attention to Astrid. Astrid cowered in fear and curled up in a ball. The kitsune didn't want to frighten her anymore. So, he shrunk back down to his normal size which is the size of a normal fox. The kitsune slowly approached Astrid, who was still cringing in fear. "Are you alright?" the kitsune asked.

Astrid was surprised to here a human voice. She peeked out, but she only saw the kitsune. "Did it speak to me?" she thought, "Impossible, animals don't speak." However, it was the only other living creature in the cave and she asked, "D-d-did you sp-speak?"

The kitsune nodded and answered, "Yes, I can speak. Now, please tell me, Are you hurt?"

Astrid shook her head. "N-no, I'm n-not hurt j-j-just s-sc..."

"You're scared of me. I understand," the kitsune sighed, "I'm sorry about scaring you. It wasn't my intention. My intention was to scare off those people. I couldn't let them harm you."

"So, you saved me?" Why?" Astrid asked.

"Why not?" the kitsune replied, "You have done nothing wrong to me. Why shouldn't I help you?"
