This choice: "I don't know," Matthew replied • Go Back...Chapter #8"I don't know," Matthew replied by: who-me "I-I-I-I-I don't know," Matthew replied, "It might be your beautiful face." Aurora laughed.
"Beautiful? Me? Flattery and lying won't save your life," Aurora replied, "By your standards I'm actually ugly."
"No, I think you are one of the most beautiful people I've ever met," Matthew replied, not moving an inch. "Yes, you killed my employers, but that doesn't make you not beautiful. Just someone powerful."
"I'm a phoenix!" Aurora said, "And I'm cursed to look like this because of some spell placed on me, so don't call me beautiful." Aurora didn't understand why this tiny man was affecting her so. She wanted to kill him, but her body wouldn't respond. "What's wrong with me?" she thought. She tried jumping to fly, but when she flexed her wing, it hurt really badly and she had to stop.
"Is something wrong?" Matthew asked, seeing her actually flinch in pain.
"That bastard hurt my wing more than I thought," Aurora replied, "I'll have to burn to heal it."
"May I look at it? The wound I mean," Matthew asked, "I have some experience in treating wounds."
"You want to get on my back so you can try to kill me," Aurora said.
"No, look. I have no weapons. And if I try anything, you could easily stop me," Matthew said, "Please trust me."
"All right," Aurora said, turning to lie on the ground., so her injured wing was close to Matthew. Matthew walked forward and sat onto Aurora's back. He saw where the shovel had hit her. It was right near her back, If the wing wasn't there, he would of hurt her worse. For some reason Matthew didn't like that thought.
"This probably grew when you did," Matthew said, touching the wound. It was still fresh and healing, Not thinking much of it, he took off his outer shirt and made a bandage from it. He looked at his hand, with her blood on it. It was red.
"I thought phoenixes and other beings of fire had a yellow /orange blood?" he asked, when getting off. Aurora saw his top shirt was gone., and her wing felt better.
"We do," Aurora replied.
"Then why do you bleed red?" Matthew asked.
"I told you, the curse," Aurora said.
"But how could a curse give a being who was originally just very territorial, the power to speak, think, and reason like a human or other intelligent creature?" Matthew asked. Aurora stared at this man. She didn't like to admit it, but his words made sense.
"It just does," she said, getting up, flexing her wing. It felt better. She looked down at Matthew and found herself caught in the same eyes as before.
"What are you going to do now?" Matthew asked.
Aurora replied, ". . . . indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
