(Getting on my soapbox about a pet peeve of mine, somewhat related to that article.) Maybe it's my age, nearing the so-called Golden years, or my excellent New England schooling those many years ago, but I cringe when I get certain reviews here. If there are more than two typos, misspelled words, or inaccurate punctuation, I pay no more attention to the review and simply delete it, even if it were a lovely 5.0. The same thing goes for those lazy IM or text email reviews. The other day, I finally had enough. This person gave me a 1.0 on my Google article, which was okay since not everyone likes the same type of writing. If s/he hadn't written the article wasn't for people with above average intelligence as s/he had, I might have ignored the painfully illiterate review. However, I returned the review with red-ink corrections and a polite recommendation for an excellent grammar and punctuation book. Oh yeah, I realize I'm not perfect, but doesn't getting a review where no care seemed to have been put into the writing of it negate any rating the person gives? Personally, I’d rather get a rating below 3.0 from someone who points out my writing’s weak points in an articulate way than a 5.0 from a person here with a problem spelling C-A-T. Okay, getting off my soapbox now regarding massacred English skills. Anyone else have a pet peeve like this? Judity |
