20220328 Writing Update

Writing update!

Long story has hit 41k words and a slight hiccup. I think Iā€™ve written myself into a corner (I do not want the MCs to hook up until the end, just before I kill one of them), so it looks like the last chapter and a half Iā€™ve written will have to be deleted so I can go down a different pathway. This happens. But it does mean that the word count will drop down to 36k-odd words before resuming.

I finished a short story for an anthology ā€“ Poe-Faced. Write a story with one of Poeā€™s themes but in your own style. Not allowed to rewrite a Poe tale. 5100 words after edits, and Iā€™m happy with it. Hopefully the editors are as well.

Wrote a short story based on the old Smokie song ā€˜Living Next Door To Aliceā€™. 3000 words. I made it creepy, though not out-right horror. More thriller, I guess. Genres in this area are hard to nail down. Not sure what to do with it.

Had a poem accepted by the local paper. Not sure when theyā€™ll print it. Itā€™s a comedy ā€œbush ballad styleā€ about our lack of snow in Australia.

Have also written stuff for contests, challenges, etc. here at WdC, so the word count is always increasing.

Sorry this is a me-centric entry, but this is my writing blog, and these are my current writering things.

However, I also have a question: Is there anything based on my experience you would want to know about when it comes to writing? Ask, and if I have an answer, I will attempt to answer it, and if I donā€™t, I will say I donā€™t and then go and do some research.
