(was) A relaxing place to work on writing skills |
Dear fellow-writers, Would you like to become a better writer and help others become better writers? Are you able to comply with workshop rules as rigid as when you were in school? Would you even go back to the basics of writing? Here is the idea: DECIDE! Have a good think-it-over session and reflect on whether you would like to improve your writing skills while helping others do the same. THE JOB - As often as possible, an assignment will be posted. It will contain the prompt for the story to be written by ALL the group members. Prompts are made up by me or taken from http://www.writersdigest.com/writingprompts.asp If a member wants to use an old story, this is fine as long as he/she can make it fit in the prompt. The story should follow the guidelines, exact word count, as stated in the prompt. - The story should be followed by a clear explanation of: 1)The Plot line 2)The Starting Point 3)The Setting 4)The Ending - Every member will be required to donate 500GPs (or more, if you can ) with his/her submission. THE REWARD One of the participants will be declared "member of the week" by the judge. The elected member of the week will receive ALL the GPS donated that week for all the entries. The judge receives 2,000GPs. FACTS OF THE GROUP If you decide to sign up and become a member of the group, you will be asked to be active. Our aim is to become published one way or another, and we will not achieve this if we do not work for it. The main thing to understand is that to become published we need to put our heart into it... and our time! You might think it is too much to ask, but we are all in the same shoes. I work full time and I have a child, everyone is in the same situation regarding time and if you do not have time for the group, you will not have time for a publisher!! So, consider your work with the Terrace as a training towards your writing career. And even better than anything else Once the "member of the week" has edited his/her item, he/she is required to refer to "Submissions and Queries" and send out his item as submission. Feedback will be expected on "A cuppa on the Terrace?" . These feedbacks will help other members have an idea about submissions and markets. ADDENDUM: I will delete the members who did not post in the forum "A cuppa on the Terrace?" for more than three weeks. This might seem a little harsh on some people but my wish in creating this group is to work with friends to get better at writing and get published. My wish is not to research markets and work hard at finding clues and ideas on writing techniques so that the others can get published while I have no time for my own writing. So if you think you have what it takes, go ahead and send Dave's trying to catch up an email! You will be required to write a 300-word biography "Why do I write?" in order to join us.
