Pocatello enforces an old law.
“It’s a fine day, Mrs. Newman,
And $5,000 is your fine,” the judge said, grinning.
Mrs. Newman’s smile was wide,
The muscles of her face really working.

“Our winters reach an awesome thirty below!”
Exclaimed the judge from Pocatello, Idaho.
“The wonder of surviving in that cold!”
Mrs. Newman smiled gratefully - “Your Honor, I know.”

She shivered as her sentence was passed down
For failing to smile in public
In this cold little town.
