Information about the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series in my stories
I have been thinking about it for a while, and with how big my story descriptions get due to all of my information, and since I can currently have up to 20 items in my portfolio, I've decided to post some of that stuff as lists in separate items and just put links to them in the story descriptions, so that people don't have to keep scrolling through that large amount of text if they don't want to. These are rules specific to the main series games

This shouldn't even need to be said, but there are multiple continuities. The Sonic SatAM, Sonic Underground, The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Prime, Sonic the Comic, Archie Sonic, IDW Sonic, the Sonic Boom Universe, the Sonic X universe, the Sonic OVA, and the Paramount movie Sonic series are separate from the main series games, despite what Sonic Team is currently trying to say about the Prime and IDW series being canon, as there are several continuity errors preventing that from being the case. Sonic Battle is also unable to be part of the main series timeline, as despite Emerl being officially added to canon, there are once again several continuity issues (such as all Chaos Emeralds being green, and there are multiple Master Emeralds that can just show up in front of characters) that prevent the game's events from being possible, since Gemerl is a rebuilt version of Emerl, and because Gemerl is shown to stay with Cream and Vanilla after Sonic Advance 3, and is nowhere to be found later in Sonic Rush, where Blaze went to there home, and Sonic Generations, when Gemerl would have definately gone with Cream, Sonic Advance 3 isn't able to be part of the main series timeline, and both mentions of Emerl, and other issues, prevent Sonic Chronicles from being canon. Sonic Spinball is also not part of the timeline.

Despite all of this, there are some things to mention. The IDW comic characters are allowed to be used in any of the allowed series, due to Sonic mentioning Tangle in Frontiers and her leaving a message in Tailstube, and Sticks has appeared in the Mario and Sonic in the Olympic Games series and was mentioned in Frontiers, the Boom characters are free to be used. The characters from Sonic X season 3 and from the Battle/Chronicles series are allowed to be used in the main series as well.

Something to note about Tangle, she is actually evidence that the IDW and game universes aren't the same universe, despite people claiming the fact that Sonic knows her in Frontiers does otherwise. The reason she makes them unable to be the same universe is her introduction to characters. IDW Tangle met Sonic early on, with Sonic introducing himself, and her being glad to meet him, having heard of him, but not having recognized him on site, and met Amy and the rest of Sonic's friends shortly after. Game Tangle was first seen asking a question on TailsTube. She mentioned seeing him in racecars sometimes, and Sonic didn't show any sign of knowing her upon seeing her face in her profile picture icon. If the universes were the same, then if Sonic and Tangle's first meeting was her introduction in the comics, Sonic would have known her in the TailsTube video, and if the TailsTube video happened first, Tangle would have recognized Sonic in her IDW introduction.

Since the IDW comics aren't canon to the games, Surge and Kit wouldn't have been victims of Starline's, unless it is eventually stated sometime in game. For my stories, Surge normally goes with her quills down, has normal teeth, doesn't hate Sonic, has above average speed, and slight electrical powers (can't shoot lightning, but can cover herself in an electrical aura that can zap with physical contact, charge devices, and boost her speed, not to Sonic or Shadow level though, although this burns through energy quickly).

Versions of characters from other Sonic dimensions are able to show up in the game universe if they can dimension hop and have a reasonable potential excuse to have done so. Since Gold from the Archie Comic's last appearance had her vanish into a portal, she is available, but to use her, someone must open a portal in Sonic's world that connects to it

Sally Acorn, despite being a character created by Archie, is a bit of a grey area. Sally Acorn as a name was actually originated by the American version of the original game, being the name of Rickies (Which are squirrel creatures from the game), with the character being inspired by that. As Eggman's American name of Robotnik has been made canon, and it came from the same source as "Sally Acorn" and the other animal friends who were given names, I'm allowing there to be one of each animal friend who has the name. At the end of the first game, if you have all six Chaos Emeralds from the game, they will scatter after using their powers to improve things. For this, one of each animal friend will have been mutated by a Chaos Emerald, except for Flickies, as there were seven animals (with Flickies being the only one not being given a different name). This leaves them as Porker Lewis (a former Picky/pig), Chirps (a former Cucky/chicken), Tux (a former Pecky/penguin), Johnny Lightfoot (a former Pocky/rabbit), Joe Sushi (a former Rocky/seal), and of course, Sally Acorn.

Out of the mutated animal friends, Sally is the only girl. Any "Classic Sonic" game has her look like the version of herself from SatAM/pre-genesis wave Archie, and "Modern Sonic" games have her look like her post genesis wave Archie self. Sally looks like her comic and cartoon self, but as she's just a mutated Ricky, she is not a princess, and thus, does not have her background.

Next is mentioning the Sonic mandates. There are some that will apply, and some that don't. I've listed the ones I've found that apply and italicized anything I added.

Game characters cannot have relatives unless they were established in the game canon, i.e. Cream and her mother. The only exception is that they can have children

The word "Mobius" is banned. The world has been called Earth before, looks like it from when seen in space, and has since been confirmed as Earth

Knuckles is not allowed to leave Angel Island unless he has a very good reason to, with the exception of any canon time he did in the games

Tangle and Whisper are unable to be in a relationship
