Lily is doubtful about Arthur's claim. 300 Words
Would I Lie?

“Do you expect me to believe that?” Lily Speckle demanded of Arthur Taber.

He smiled at her comfortably.

“I wouldn’t lie to you, my dear.”

“I’m not your dear, we don’t even know each other!”

“Tell me, why is what I just said not believable to you?” Arthur asked.

Lily was non-plus.

“I guess it just sounds unbelievable,” she admitted.

“What about it is so lacking in believability?”

“I don’t know, the whole thing I guess!”

Arthur chuckled deep in his throat.

“What can I do to make it believable?”

“Show me how you do it?” Lily decided.

“Okay, but it will be just a short demonstration.”

Pulling out a black wand, Arthur tapped himself on the head. Instantly he disappeared.

“Okay, I believe you! Come back now!” Lily called.

Arthur did not come back. Lily called and called for him to do so.

“Where did you get that spell, I wonder? I hope you didn’t copy it from Marvelous Melnish!” she asked the air.

There was a loud sound of snapping fingers. Arthur came back just as suddenly as he left. He was bedraggled and had a frightened look on his face.

“How did you know I snuck it out of Marvelous Melnish’s spell book?” he asked, in between pants.

“We all know what happened to him, so I thought you could never be so foolish!”

“It was a close one, but I remembered just in time how to avoid time-traveling for the rest of my days. “

“How did you figure it out?”

“The old boy’s spirit came to me once and told me how to pull out of it.”

Lily sighed. It was hard to hear that her favourite magician was no longer living. But she was glad he’d finally solved his life-long problem.
