King of the Animal's Retirement

King of the Animal's Retirement

The King of the animals
The old Lion King
Knew that his time
Was coming to a close.

The animals all got together
To vote on a new King
The Lion King
was forgeting things.

and his aids were concerned
they wanted to avoid
the old way of settling accounts
a fight to the death.

and try a new thing
they had learned,

from reading the history
of the ancient extinct
human civilizations.

an election
the animals would vote
and the most popular candidate
would win.

the campaign was hard fought
the tiger finally won the election
and the lion king retired
to his country estate.

I am going to avoid political poetry from now.

NEW PROMPT

The election season is finally over in the U.S., thank goodness, with a result that will please a majority (barely) of the country.

The past several months have seen a bunch of political cartoons featuring a donkey and an elephant, symbols of the Democrat and Republican parties, respectively.

These images were popularized by the "Father of the American cartoon," Thomas Nast , who -- on Nov. 7, 1874 -- published the first cartoon featuring an elephant as a symbol of the Republican party.

For tomorrow, write a story or poem about animals holding an election for who is to be crowned the next "king of the animals," to replace the aging and increasingly forgetful lion.

One of your genres should be ANIMAL.
