Farewell Grieving

Witnessing the passing of my life
From outside the crystal globe,
Rocking it to and fro upon the pedestal,
I admire the tears that fall like glitter,
Until it tumbles from its perch,
Disintegrating upon the floor below—
The world strewn over dull grey tiles
Has suddenly become all too real.

Parting white mists with black vestments,
Bearers cast pity-filled eyes upon me
And the drops of my sorrow staining the pall,
Casket brimming only with grief of times past.
No comfort for a bleeding heart and silent lips,
As I mutely whisper my final farewells,
While the fates seal it with a chill kiss
And a stone heart, already cracked by pain.

Memories whisper to me like angels,
Pleading for love and remembrance,
But the pains of parting prove too great,
So I close my eyes and forsake them all.
Even when deepest in their need,
They depart coddling the pain I sent,
Clinging as they wait in long-cast shadows;
The dreams closest to my soul they haunt.

In a river of imaginary tears,
One of blood that taints them all;
That which falls from the master
Amidst those never worth shedding.

Sometimes grief is most surely kept
Within the kindness of our memories.
