she told me she loved me, but she lied
She tells me she loves me.
but she says it short,
skipping over the word too fast.
“Iiiiiiii love you.”
I can tell it’s a lie.

Long nights talking on the phone,
nights you never want to end, fighting over who hangs up first,
eventually settling on the idea of falling asleep on the phone together.
All day thinking about her, her thinking about you, you touching her skin,
caressing it,
tasting it,
o how it smells like cookie dough,
Tearful goodbyes,
Wiping away the water from her face,
telling her everything will be ok,
wet kisses,
excited hellos,
her running up and jumping on you,
wrapping her legs around you,
hugging you,
squeezing you with her arms as if she was wrapping you in a blanket made of love,
kissing, oh sweet, beautiful, kissing,
your arms are filled with her,
your heart overwhelmed by her,
feeling as if your moments with her will last forever and by being with her you become immortal.

I have known none of theses, but she tells me she loves me, so I tell her I love her too. She says goodbye, I say goodbye too, I wait, rustle, rustle, Click, beep…. beep…. beep….

I am always the last to hang up.
