Thoughts of life and how I perceive it in layers each of us a different thickness.

Layers

Broken boards with rusty nails,
foreign cars and distant stars.
Sailing ships with worn out sails,
heavy hearts and lonely bars.

Distant dreams and tired years,
grayer days and braver knights.
A mother faces her worst fears,
troubled minds in neon lights.

The loaded guns of those that kill,
the truly rich and peasant poor.
An older man with no more will,
something's rotten to the core.

Lifeless stares of walking dead,
bills to pay, we're not alone.
Every man will face the dread,
one old dog with just one bone.

One will laugh while others cry,
some find joy in sunny rays.
Still some men will learn to fly,
while others chase around a maze.

Love is yet another's pleasure,
colder nights and warmer days.
One wish left to find the treasure,
one last game has now been played.

There's one last train on steel rails,
one last day and one more breath.
One last loser with one more tale,
one last soldier stares at death.

Nothing from nothing is no more,
some will kneel down in prayer.
Others do what's done before,
peel back life, layer by layer.
