Doesn't matter what you wear
Leather, silk, rags or business suit
who cares about your nice shirt
or if you're bald, well-groomed, pink haired or scrubby

Doesn't matter who you know
or what you think is better
or what your stance is on war, God or politics
or who you think should run the country
your favorite band, your job, what you drive or live in
doesn't matter your affiliations
or denomination, race is unimportant

be yourself, keep it real, let them keep it real
don't let others change you, don't try to change them
don't scorn someone because you don't understand them
because you've never been in their shoes

we've no right to look down on
unless we're lending a hand
never feel anyone's above you
height, weight and strength are inconsequential

we've no right to cast judgement
for we all have erred, we've all messed up
they may think you're different, you may think they are

see the big picture
stop being such a conformists, stop fighting conformists so much
branch out, open your mind, live a little

we're all the same, most of us anyways
we're all trying to find our way
and if you have, then offer to lead

the only accolades that count
are acts of compassion and humanity
the best awards are rewards given
to a stranger who has never seen your work

why do we live in confinement
why can't we have empathy
sympathy, why so much apathy

why is so much overrated
why are real heroes underrated
free thinkers banished
most real difference makers toil anonymous
they are completely content with it

why can't I be more like them, or you, or you

stop talking about what's wrong with our country
love it, and go out and do something if you believe it
changes are made in tiny increment
laborously made by each who tries
each brick you lay makes a difference
it is your contribution
leave a legacy, make a mark

we don't have to make a huge splash
a simple good deed is all you need

remove your self from the rat race
step back from your desk and read that co-workers' name tag
look up from your paperwork and see your family
turn the tube off and read a story

finally tell that person that you love them-if you're alone, know you are loved
do that thing you've always wanted to do
breathe life into a dull room
or let that other inspired person do so
without judgement, live without judgement

call that long-lost freind, make amends where you can
forgive yourself for mistakes, learn from them-correct them
shake a strangers hand, look a person in the eye
say peace be with you and mean it, mean it

look past the clothes, the sights, the way a person sounds
the physical beauty or disfigurement
close your eyes and see to a person's soul
see good where it lay
for it comes in many forms

no matter what our style, or which circle we're in
all we are is spirits renting costumes
here to make this a better place
preparing for something even better
when our souls can finally run free

go on, climb that mountain
make a change, make a difference
make today yours
